Newp just knocked off the No.2 seed in a 6-1,6-2 shellacking. A lot of tough tennis ahead, but Ryan looked GREAT today, and he was down but not out of his match against the No. 1 seed from Georgia on Saturday....

He can play with anybody if he plays like he did today.

What a great match today by Ryan. Next up for Ryan will be Fran Krepelka of Okie State. He did not play him this year. Krepelka played Lester Cook at #2 and beat Lester 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (6). Newp should be OK if he plays anywhere close to the way he did today. My concern for him is the double duty tomorrow as he plays singles and doubles (w/Lester). Let's hope he gets a real early start in singles before it gets too hot.

A great win today for Ryan. I hope he's still playing this Friday when I make it back for the rest of the tournament

Ryan was absolutely marvelous today. He got on top early and never lost control of either set. He was simply bigger, stronger, and more in control of his game. He never really let the Tennessee player come to the net, and kept him off balance with big serves and strong returns that kept his opponent on the baseline much of the match. The best part, however, is that Ryan demonstrated to himself and the rest of the college tennis world exactly how good he can be when he plays up to his potential.

I guess Newp is back to full speed after his back injury this year. With the performance of this very young team added to Newp's performance in singles, the rest of the country should be put on notice for next year. Does anyone know how well regarded our recruits are for next year?

So I'm assuming he still plans to play his doubles match today, too?

Ryan and Lester are scheduled, or re-scheduled I guess, to play 3:30. I don't think doubles today will be a problem fitness wise, but I worry about Newp's match tomorrow. Luckily the third set of this win went rather easily.

It looks like all of the seeds have been eliminated from Ryan's quarter of the draw. Should be wide open for someone to make a run over the next couple of days. Hopefully Ryan can use the home court to his advantage.

At least Wagner went 3 sets. I would have been concerned if he didn't have to work. Wagner isn't involved in doubles so let's hope the Ags get through in straight sets.

(#25) Brandon Wagner (UGA) def. Keith From (A&M) 6-4, 7-6 (3).

I guess that's goodbye to From. He had a few nice wins over a career that seemed to last forever.

Best of luck to him.

Keith wasn't in the singles draw. That score against Wagner was from the team match last Saturday.

I was wondering why I didn't know he was in the draw.
