What happened tonight? Besides a promising performance from Black, we seemed helpless to change the pace of the game. And where were our awesome blocks we have been getting the past few games. I was thinking we would come off the Texas game playing at a higher level.

yeah, they are not consistent with their blocks. i hope they can pull it together sometime soon cause missed blocks put alot of pressure on our defense, and as a former libero, digging a "blocking error" ball is difficult to say the least.

Our block was really slow closing on the outsides for some reason. I think darla was really concerned about Breyfogle in the middle and we ended up seeing a lot of one on one's with baylors outsides hitting solo against banse or black...not good for the back row.

Really the thing that killed us was our serve receive. We passed decent in the first game but the next three were just terrible. I think Ringel still has some confidence issues. She did a great job passing to the target in the first game and we won, but then the the next three they really started targeting her with all the serves and she got rattled and put up a lot of tough passes. She's only a freshman and its hard to ask her to receive the majority of serves, but practice will only help her in the future. I do wish the coach would start pushing Batis over towards Ringel in serve recieve. We could still have a three person serve receive but let Batis take half the court and the other two passers would only worry about 1/4 of the court each. And if they started targeting Batis and she struggled then we could just shift back. But with Banse out of the game, Batis is really the best passer. Black and Ringel are just too inconsistent.

This loss to Baylor was really a tough loss for us. We should have been able to beat them at home, and I think we just came out flat and didn't have near the fire that we had on Wednesday night. I know it was a quick turnaround for us, but they were both home matches and Baylor had to come home from a bad loss at nebraska wednesday night and get geared up for us. Now we have to go to Nebraska on wednesday night and I don't think we really even have a shot up there. Then we get Kansas at home, which is a very winnable game. After that we go back into the gauntlet at K-State, at Texas, and home against Nebraska.

Right now our overall record is 9-10. We have to finish at .500 to have any shot at making the NCAA's, and we really don't have any good wins to warrant us getting in as a .500 team. Our win over BYU looked good at the beginning of the season, but BYU has really turned out to be a dud this year and I don't think that holds nearly the value that it might once have.

I think not making the NCAA this year with a team of mostly juniors and seniors would be a big disappointment, but its gonna take a really strong run to close out the season to have any shot at making it in.
