Unfortunately the good guys dropped both their doubles match and singles match on the first day of play here in Charlottesville.

Pollock/Krajicek dropped their doubles match to Virginia's Singh/Barrick 9-7

In singles, Pollock just lost to Ohio State's Koniecko 7-5, 7-6

Hopefully they'll make a run in the consolation bracket which begins tomorrow.

the national indoors is probably the biggest event of the fall, and a lot of those guys from up north have been playing on faster indoor surfaces for a few weeks now, some even longer than that.

no shame in losing to koniecko in a close one. i would imagine conor can win that match 50-60% of the time, though, and hopefully he'll get his chance at revenge when ohio state comes in march.

did you see the doubles, spence? did they let some break chances get away during the match, or did the uva boys just keep it together the whole way and then steal a break at the end? singh/barrick are both very legit doubles players, but i expected conor and austin to win this one and eventually get another shot at berg/ten berge from ole miss in the semis. hopefully they can get some good wins in the back draw to finish off the fall.
