Arlington Martin's Laura Jones took MVP honors by leading her team to victory in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All Star Volleyball Game at TCU's Daniel Meyer Coliseum. Laura is a volleyball signee. This was reported in the 7/11/02 DMN. (hard copy, sorry, no link). Looks like coach Corbelli has added another talented, hard working player to the nationally ranked volleball program. Congratulations to Laura and welcome to Aggieland.

Thanks for the heads-up!
Laura will be a great asset. She already has a lot of experience since she has been a part of the USAV High Performance program. I definitely think she will be one who can step in immediately.

Below is an article from DMN:

FORT WORTH – Laura Jones' list of accomplishments is as long as her sleek body.

The volleyball player added another MVP award to her collection Wednesday with a standout game in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Volleyball Game.

"I just tried to have fun," Jones said after leading the West to a come-from-behind victory against the East at TCU's Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. "That's all you can do is try and have some fun out there, and good play always seems to be contagious."

After losing Game 1, the West won three consecutive games in the rally-scoring format. The West won, 19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-13, 15-13.

Jones had 13 kills, five digs and one block assist to help the team bounce back from a 6-1 deficit in Game 3. Jones, who is bound for Texas A&M, teamed with Round Rock Westwood's Nancy Barba and Amarillo All-American Meagan Welch to lead the front-line hitting.

"Actually, they were bigger than us," said the 6-2 Jones. "We just did the most with the ones we had."

Barba, headed for UCLA, and Jones were among 18 players in the Division II game matching players from Class 5A and 4A schools who will attend college on scholarships next year.

Arlington High's Hannah Reedy had two kills, two assists and two block assists in her final high school match. Reedy and Jones started the contest with Reedy switching time with Jessica Mihm of Austin Westlake.

Barba had nine kills, and Mihm, an SMU signee, turned in an all-around game with her hitting and setting. Mihm, the sister of former UT standout and current NBA player Chris Mihm, had seven kills, eight assists and 10 digs.

The East's top hitter was Elizabeth Tomasovic (eight kills) of San Antonio Clark. Megan Heinz of Langham Creek, Blair Moon of Fort Bend Elkins, and Carissa Mills of Magnolia had six kills each.

Jones said she tried to not let her emotions overtake her in the all-star atmosphere.

"Today was my last time to practice at Martin, so today was special," Jones said. "But you can't let emotions get in the way."

Jones was the 11th Martin player to participate in the all-star game, joining the list that includes Tina Griffin (1984), Chris Rudiger (1985), Shawna Owens (1987), Aimee York (1988), Elizabeth Suggs (1991), Audra Sundberg (1993), Katie Grieve (1995), Liz Gruns (1996), Clarissa Bonner (1997) and Allison Barnes (2000).

In the Division I match, the East won with Tonya Davis of Freer spiking the winning point in the fifth game. The East won, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10.

That's great news! Our volleyball program lost some talent to graduation, and it looks like there won't be any drop.

But what's up with this?

That sounds a little inappropriate to me.
