I am about to purchase some new irons and Drivers, but don't really know where to start. I play about 5-6 times a year, but looking to play more than that this next year (and for years to come).

I would like to get a set that will last me a very long time (i.e. high quality). I was thinking Taylor Made or Ping????

Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.

go to a golf store, ie: golfsmith, and test hit some. ask for help there, and go with what feels the best

I agree with above.

I was in the same situation about 2 years ago.

I told myself that I wanted some pings so I was bent on making them work.

I borrowed some from a friend and they just felt all wrong. I dont know if is it because i am short or what but I never could roll my hands over in time.

I tried a BUNCH of clubs and found myself returning to a set of Adams Idea 2 hybrids over and over again. For some reason I seemed to hit them straight(er) and more solid than any other club. And I saved at least 150 from any other set of club I was trying out.

go try a bunch and then go home and buy them on-line from a trusted vendor.

i agree....

Go get measured at a golf store

Find some clubs you can hit with in your price range. don't be afraid of a hybrid set either. find what works

Find said clubs for a good deal

My dad bought me some snake eyes python plus clubs two years ago and i pretty much just lucked out that they fit and were good clubs right out of the box. Don't bank on that always happening. Just don't buy the first thing you see and try to make them work cause its a good deal. if you are going to be somewhat serious, get some clubs that fit and try and do some damage on the links.

The best advice I can give is to go get a couple of 2-Irons from a pawn shop. I cannot tell you how good is feels to wrap one around a tree or heave one into the water after shanking one.

Other than, "don't take up the game in the first place" it's the next best advice I have ever received regarding golf.

If you only play a few times a year I would set a budget of a few hundred bucks for your iron set and hit only those in that price range. If your not a avid golfer you dont need $1000 iron set and $500 driver to have fun.

buy used clubs if u can.....cheaper and will work perfectly even if ur playing 20 times a year....i have the same clubs from highschool and still playin with them 8 years later....i played probably 340 times a year in highschool.....guess what....they are fine

i would say adams, callaway, nike, or something oversized like that......go with forgiveness and not what looks 'cool" or is the popular brand.....dont spend too much : )

There are so many variables. Lofts, lie, swing weight, length, club weight, shaft characteristics such as tip stiffness, flex point, etc., grip size. It really depends on what feels comfortable for you and what fits your swing. There are many options out and some great forums to get good deals. Have to get fitted though but it will cost you and not many around that do it right.
