Midland High has a freshman girl named Natalie Hinds that totally dominated her first meet.
She dominated the 50 and 100 meter freestyles. Won the 100 by 4.7 seconds I think.

If you want to read the article, google Mywesttexas.com and seach her name.

The margin of victory is unimportant since it seems her competition was not very good.

However - her times are very good for a freshman. 24.2 50 free and 57+ 100 fly.

Those times are GREAT for a freshman, but for girls, the Junior and Senior years are way more important. With guys' swimming, you can pretty much assume that they're going to get significantly better each year in highschool, but many (if not most) girls stop improving after Sophmore year, and then not again until college (if at all).

Hopefully she hooks onto a good club program. I don't know exactly what the USS clubs are like out there, but I know that the Highschool teams in that area are pretty atrocious, although they usually turn out stellar divers.

As a point of reference for those not up on swimming, her 24.2 50 free would've put her in 11th against t.u. last week, and the 57 would've put her 8th in the 50 fly. In other words, she wasn't in the top 4 on our team in either event, AKA "the scoring heat".

In other words, her times are looking good, but unless she finds a better coach than what the results from swimmers in that area show exists, she might not develop well enough to swim for the Ags.

I think Natalie is 6'0" or 6'1" and has the ideal swimmer body. I also heard that she is relatively new to swimming, so I think she will improve throughout high school.

I don't think coaching out there is what makes the high school and club teams so weak. The teams out there just have very few numbers to pull from. The high school coaches do pretty well considering what they have to start with.
