High School swimming bores me, so let's talk about some real swimming. BigXII Championships this weekend.

**despite previous accusations, no I am NOT on the A&M Men's team**

Ready, GO!

Here's what www.swim-rankings.com has to say on the subject (at least on the men's side)

it doesnt look like swim-rankings takes into account that one very important variable that we like to call "taper"

Nor the fact, that the Ags DQ'd a relay and was Sehn-less last year...If they keep the relays clean and don't have any individual DQ's (see: Duran) then add Sehn (and McLean) to the mix...I think the Ags embarrass the Tigers in their home pool...

The big question is how fast are the relays going to go...IMO the Aggie men are poised to put up some wicked medley relay times

What's the scoring system for Big XII's, and does a team score multiple relays?

I'm surprised that they predict Missouri to beat us by 60.

For starters, I'm not sure how they see either diving event as being close for Missouri versus our guys, but then again these are probably swimming guys writing the articles.

It looks like they got all of the eligibility/whatever issues worked out with those guys (Nikita), so that should be a big boost.

I can only imagine that these guys didn't have access to the psych sheets/meet entries when they wrote the article, because by just briefly perusing the psych sheets, it looks like we have a clear edge over Missouri, although I'm not sure how I feel about Texagg09s insinuation that Missouri for whatever reason doesn't have a taper, but whatever.

I think the swim rankings guys are probably dead on about the relays being very important, as the seed times are all very close (who's in our 800? They've gotta be able to go faster than a 6:52), and they could swing the meet to Mizzou.

I'm more concerned about the guys getting a few more NCAA cuts so they can achieve their goal of top 10 than about beating Missouri.

I never said mizzou doesn't taper...

Only one relay per team scores points. 18 total athletes score (divers count as half an athlete), so texas has 3 divers, and will have 16 swimmers on their 'A' squad. That's the big question is who will be the t.u. 16...

Yeah, I'm sure Eddie Reese is laying awake at nights stressing over whether he wants to enter his world record holders and win by 400, or just his Olympians and still win by 400...

What about on the girls' side? Do you think we'll be able to catch t.u.? It'll be tough without Alia.

He has one WR holder, and a total of 2 Olympians...

And its not a question for Eddie, I'm sure he could care less. But it will play a huge factor in the battle for 2nd, how many texas guys will be in the back/breast/flys etc.

The women could be in trouble, much as I hate to say it. I hope they can pull it off though. The diving field looks packed (with total divers, not necessarily good ones) so that will be a tough place to pick up much needed points if they can.

Feb 10th she's the collegiate national swimmer of the week.

Is she out for conference? What happened?

I hope the men can beat that seed time in the 800 free relay. Auburn's women swam a 6:54 at the SEC championships.

Just not nearly as exciting as collegiate swimming. Plus its been a LOOOOONG time since I had anything to do with h.s swimming. I don't follow it much anymore

It'll be a tough order for the women to make it a three-peat. We're without Wilkinson, Heiss, Atkinson and, according to aggieathletics.com, Patrick who's going home for Nationals. Plus, Texas has that ridiculously good freshmen class. People are going to have to step up big time.

Aggie men lead longhorns by 1 point after day 1 thanks to a win by Sehn in 1 meter springboard.

Feigen goes 19.24 in prelims of the 50. Casey seeded third in finals with a 19.77. Should be fast tonight.

Ags send four ladies to the 50 free and 200 IM A finals.

Ladies have a lead after the 50 free. Looks like Jaele being gone is going to hurt pretty bad, though. A shame if the meet comes down to the divers, but I guess that's why they call it swimming & diving!

Definitely some fast swimming going on from both men & women, but I don't think its quite what either side was hoping for...

Ahhh the girls have a chance!

Looks like Alia is back and swam a freaking sick time, too bad she's not on the scoring team, winning the 2Br would be huge. At least Casey HZ bumps up into the A final. Jordan King has also had some great swims, but is unfortunately not on the scoring team. Would've been seeded 7th in the 2fly.

Up 2 coming into today, Ags have 11up 4down, t.u. has 10up 3down.

Might be in trouble in the 1650, as 2 of the girls have other, hard races that day, and t.u. is seeded 1-4.

On the 4x100 free, adding up the top 4 100 freestyle times, they have a .4 second advantage, but one would assume that Triin will go faster in the 100 than she did in prelims.]

Key races in finals tonight-It would be huge for Triin and Christine to both step up and knock off Bispo and Chang to go 1-2 in the 100 free. That's a 13 point swing.

200 Br-Rooting for Missouri to hold on ahead of Spann and go 1-2, as it would be tough for Melanie to move up any.

1650- Casey, Alyssa, and Melissa need to jump in there and break up the longhorn party at the top. Casey's had a great meet so far, so look for her to at least medal.

400 Fr relay- 12 point swing between first and second, NEED this one badly.

If the divers can keep their heads above water, we MIGHT have a chance to pull this off. Tonight's swimming A-finals score out to 270t.u.-231Tamu as seeded (including 1650/relays) and B-finals score out to 36Tamu-18t.u.

267Tamu
288t.u.

This difference can be made up between the 100 free and the relay, and then it's just up to the other swimmers to make up for the difference in the diving.

It's the last day of the meet. Everyone is probably feeling tired. Aggie girls swimming awesome and Alia's back for the 200br. Too bad the medley relays are done!

Texas should go 1-2 in 200 back, A&M 3-4 and one more.

Texas (Bispo) wins 100 free but only has 2 in finals. A&M has 4.

I'm concerned Alia is marked A&M B - is she non-scoring?

Why on earth did Texas scratch Kathleen Hersey in 200 fly? She is 3rd fastest in the nation rightt now? That is a gift to A&M for her to scratch.

The 400 free relay should be a battle.

Yeah she is. She probably doesn't score as many in one race as the 16th person would in 3 or 4, and they probably weren't sure if she'd be back or not.

Not so. The ladies were without 3 of their 4 best swimmers, and their best diver, who would've had a chance at winning the diving events.

Put any one of them back into the mix, and it's an Aggie win, or at least a single digit difference.

This.

What's the word on guy's recruits for next year? Anybody decent?

This upward push by Missouri is likely a trend, not an anomaly, as I've heard their new facilities are spectacular.
