Hard to believe Dara still has it in her to compete at that level. Already back after her surgery and ready to compete.

What an inspiration to us old swimmers.

The meet is loaded with talent. I expect some of the stars will scratch some of their off events. For example Peirsol is skipping 100 back and is entered in 100 fly.

I can't get to prelims during the day but may watch some of the finals.

The races I most would like to see:

Knutson vs. Hoff in 200 free
Cielo in anything
Torres

Prelims are SCY, finals LCM.

I saw Dara swim last year at A&M. Really cool to see her racing against the youngsters. I agree about watching Cielo.

Short cpourse season is over for my 10 year old so he will be entering his first LC meet in April or May. Probabaly keep him to 50's and 100's as his team doesn't have a LC pool to train in.

I have two sons racing the Grand Prix - which is realistically the end of their SCY racing.

I think your idea on your 10 yr. old makes sense. LCM is way different. He's young enough that 100 free LCM is a big enough change.

I am a bit surprised that Torres is back in the pool so quickly. She had surgery again. I wonder what exactly motivates her to race again. She is definitely a crowd fave and it seems all the PED talk has died down. Her Olympic teammates certainly seemed to believe in her.

Hoff is now training with Phelps and Bowman - so it will be interesting to see her race again. Can she beat Knutson - seeded 1st in the 200? The two fastest 17 yr. olds are in that race - Samantha Tucker the other.

Thought I'd mention our 2009 challenge set. We have been adding a 100 free and a 50 kick each week. Goal is 10 x 100 free on 1:15 like last year but this year afte3r the 100's we go straight into 10 x 50 kicks on the 1:00.

Did 8 yesterday with no problem. The kicks are harder for me than the swim.

Are y'all swimming anything interesting?

Nothing too interesting right now. Our long time coach left and our workouts have become more age group like. Not nearly as focused as before. I'm racing Zones in Dallas (March 27-28) so I need to figure out my taper plan. The change in coaching has hurt us a bit - some loss of commitment by the group I swim with.

BTW - You should do that meet.....It's at the Carroll ISD pool - good facility.

The "real time" wasn't working this morning but the prelims results are all out there.

Welch swam today - should be in the B final. But most of the Ags look like no-shows, at least today.

Check out the splits on the men's 200 free relay....

Men just time trialed the 400 free relay...2:53.4. That will give them a shot to make NCAAs depending on what happens this weekend in Long Beach. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also believe that is a new school record.

school record for Balazs leading off 42.9

That time is 12th in the country right now

Article on Elizabeth Beisel. Apparently, she's deciding between Cal-Berkeley, Florida, and Texas if she attends college:

Some superb swims yesterday. I didn't get to go but my wife saw many of the races.

Bousquet trashes the US Open record in the 50 free LCM (21.44). He crushed the TSC pool record in the 50 free SCY - 18.75. He also thrashed Cielo and Garrett Weber-Gale.

Torres of course dominates in 50 free.

Hoff very close to Janet Evans pool record in the 400M. Hoff trounces Dagny Knutson.

Big day today with 100 back, 100 breast, 200 free.

USA swimming has it more like 17th. Where are your times coming from? Looks like he would've been about 12th before last weekend, so maybe your source is out of date? I dunno though.

Pac-10's don't swim the 100 until tomorrow., and there are 12 guys withing a second of him, so I don't think that ranking will hold up long.

Shouldn't matter, though, because their 400 free sits 12th right now, and only Stanford (and maybe USC) will jump them it looks like. They probably all bailed on swimming today because they're comfortable with that relay time getting them in.

I meant the relay time is 12th. Sorry for the confusion.

And CPA is correct, it is a school record for the relay

so how many from the men's team is going to NCAAs?
SpicewoodAg

That won't be decided until after this weekend. The men's PAC10 is underway and the invitations will be calculated next week.

BUT if you wanted an estimate, it will be the guys on the 3 relays (so looks like 5 or 6 different swimmers) + divers.

Doesn't appear as though anyone besides maybe Balazs and Nathan (pending outcomes of pac-10s and last chance meets) will receive an invite individually.

200Medley broke the school record this morning in Austin, 1:26.16...puts them 15th nationally. times ahead of them are 1:26.00, .11, .12, .14...insanely close.

unless the relays get faster tomorrow, only the 400frR has a shot at making the meet...MAYBE 200MR...

Pac10s are swimming ridiculously fast. Lavery probably wont make the Breast, Casey wont make the 50, and Balazs probably wont make the 100. Although it depends on where they add in the extra 30something swimmers on...
