Just a reminder that the Aggies take on the Bears today at 6 in Waco. The Aggies have moved up to number 12 in this weeks rankings. The Bears are number 7. (Texas is 13). Obviously a very tough road match, but also affords great opportunity. Hope some of our folks can make the short trip to Waco.

A&M loses doubles point. Down a break in 1st sets on #1 and #3 Grigorov up 5-0. Hoover up a break. Hopefully, #2 and #5 are on serve.

Grigorov won in straight sets score now tied at 1 but not looking real bright for a team win.

A predictable result. Nothing to either get excited about or alarmed about.

Oh I don't know how about next year! How about a lineup of Krajcek, Spencer, Chirico if back, Grigorov, Lunt, and Hoover or possibly the French player breaks into the roster.

Chirico isnt coming back, and if we get the recruit in that we are hoping to, we will have 5 #1's playing for us. Not sure that Colin or Lunt would be 6 behind the new guy, Frenchy, Griggy, Austin, and Wil.

Hold your horses bigfoot10s. Maybe 5 number 1's on SOME program, but not 5 number 1's on a top 10 program.

If you said 5 top 2's or 3's, I'd agree, but I'm not ready to call all 5 of those guys #1's yet, especially before 2 of them have played a single match for us and with Griggy not exactly dominating at the #4 line (Marcus actually has a better record at the 4 this season).

I know, we could play Marcus AND Collin at the 6 line, and that way we wouldn't have to sit them out in the middle of April!

I think Griggy will mature and play well next year. Frenchy has not lost a match to anyone on the current team yet, including Austin and Conor. The guy we are looking at is top 5 in the nation in his class.

I am being optimistic

This losing to Baylor stuff is getting to be a real habit. Is there any sport in which the Ags are better?

Baylor has no seniors on the men's tennis team. Barring something unforseen everyone will be back next season.

Let's hope they go play some German pro league this summer!

Don't underestimate the loss of Pollock. I think that we have a great chance to be better than this year, but there is a big difference between top-5 and top-15. I do think that top-5 teams have 6 guys that could probably play #1 on the #25 team...and we aren't going to be there quite yet. Lots of reasons to be optimistic though, for sure.

A&M is better in basketball, baseball, track, soccer, and maybe softball. There are are probably a couple of others.

A&M is better in soccer. Most of that other stuff is about even.

If we really want to get into this Baylor vs. A&M discussion for the umpteenth time, A&M is better at:

Soccer
T&F (historically Baylor's men have been better, but look at the indoor results from this year. That has definitely swung towards A&M. Baylor women are terrible)
Baseball (although Baylor is still a pretty good program)
Softball (although Baylor is still a pretty good program)
Men's Basketball (they can talk all they want about all the talent they have, but 5 Big 12 wins and an NIT runner-up doesn't make you a good team.)
Women's Golf (at Big 12's A&M first, Baylor LAST)
Men's Golf
Swimming/Diving (Baylor doesn't even have them!)
Volleyball

Sports that are about even:
Equestrian
Football

So, that leaves sports that Baylor is better at:
Women's basketball (based on how many times they beat us last year, but both programs are really, really, good)
Tennis...
????

I know that this belongs in the football forum, and I am also painfully aware that our football team has been nothing to brag about over the 10 years, but what's our record against Baylor over over the last 10 years? 8-2
Over the last 25 years? 20-4-1?

I wouldn't call that "even".

Football - baylor beat a&m this year(quite badly). A&M was better in the past. Baylor is better now. Briles > Sherman.

basketball(M) -- edge a&m -- the ags and baylor have split the past two seasons in a row. Overall records, sagarin ratings, W-L against other conference teams, etc. have been close during those times. But a&m has done better in the postseason

basketball(W) -- edge baylor -- baylor owns this sport

Softball - push -- a&m edged BU 5-4 in the first game this season. Baylor still has a better conference record and a better overall record though.

baseball -- push -- a&m won the season series 2-1 but baylor is higher ranked right now with a better conference record and a better overall record

track -- a&m women do better in the big 12 tourney but I would not be surprised if Baylor does better at nationals. Men are about in the same boat. Baylor has a better reputation in track because of stars like michael johnson and jeremy wariner. I think that baylor may be better in cross country events.

There are some sports in which there is a clear cut advantage for one school over the other. Football(Baylor), Men's tennis(baylor), Women's tennis(baylor), women's hoops(baylor), soccer(a&m), golf(a&m), but a lot of the other things are close(baseball, etc.)

So I rarely venture over to this board but this thread is amazing.

This is awesome. You beat us for the 2nd time in 25 yrs while going 4-8 and now you think you are good. Thats cute.

You act like this close. We've been to the 2nd round each of the last 4 yrs while going to the NIT the year before that. You got blown out in your only NCAA appearance.

You're right, A&M has been to the Supers the last 2 yrs, one the conference tournament and regular season title, and won the series this year after sweeping you last year. While BU has been good historically, it's not even that close right now.

Current baseball records and national rankings

baylor 24-11(9-6), ranked #7 nationally
tamu 22-14(8-7), ranked #23 nationally

Sorry, but I just do now see how a&m is so dramatically better right now.

Are we only counting this year in this discussion? Or how about the past 2 years?

In softball, besides winning this year, I believe we run ruled both games last year.

In football, last year was not an accurate representation. Obviously Baylor had a better year, but in the future it will at LEAST be back and forth. Be grateful that I gave you a split, because many people would disagree.

T&F- Your suspicions couldn't be more wrong on the women. Baylor women were tied for 51st place at NCAA's, and only 4th at Big 12's (well back of our women. Yes it's true with the men, but starting with outdoors this year, Baylor might not place ahead of the Aggies at either event for the next 20 years, if ever.

And the season right before that Baylor swept a&m 3 games to 0.

The standard seems to change from sport to sport. Are we talking this year, the past few years, or over the past few decades?

The bears change the measure to fit their argument. Sure they won football this year but they were still 4-8 and haven't been to a bowl in a decade. Our overall record against them is similar to tu's against ours. Guess what baylor still stinks at football, and it is alot IFs and BUTs until Briles actually takes the program somewhere.

In baseball, we have done better them the last two years (and won the series this year).

In basketball we split with them but our overall performance this season was so much better this year it is not even close. If you stink, but you beat a better team, you do not automatically get to say you are a better team.

We beat tu 2 of the last 3 years in football. Are we a better program than tu? Not even close.

Also, one of the few B12 schools we have a winning record against in basketball is baylor, that should tell you something. We are a better program than baylor in basketball in the last five years certainly and historically.

Historically we have an edge over baylor in basketball, football, and baseball.

If you want to take recent history into account then baylor has an edge in one football season where they also stunk. But we have clearly been better than baylor every year up to this one for 20 some years. We have had the better basketball program for the last 5 years and baseball for the last two years.

In women's sports, they have basketball for sure and stuff like tennis. But when you have to go that far down the list you have lost your argument.

If you want a fairly objective comparison at the overall athletic programs please look at the director's cup standings. You will find that A&M has done better than baylor the last couple of years.
