How long do you want to ignore this user?
Interesting snippet here:

quote:

Jenkins, a 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-hander, is the coup de grace. He will be the top-ranked American junior player to enter college this fall and has been ranked within the top 20 in the world ITF rankings.

In December, he won the Orange Bowl doubles title while reaching the singles final. In February, he won the doubles title at a USTA Futures Circuit event in Texas, defeating former Cavalier All-American Treat Huey and Wake Forest All-American Todd Paul in the final.

Last year, Jenkins played in the junior US Open, junior Wimbledon and junior French Open. In 2006, he reached the doubles final of the US Open Junior Championship.

Jenkins picked Virginia over Texas A&M and Georgia.

“I had good chemistry with [coach] Steve Denton at Texas A&M, but I just think with Virginia, Brian is a little bit more like my coach now [Stephen Koon].”

Jenkins, whose older brothers played at Northwestern and Clemson, said he labored over his decision.

“We had conference calls from, like, 7 at night to 1 in the morning,” he said. “There were times when I walked away from the call and I thought for sure I was going to Texas A&M, and then there were times when we walked away and it was Virginia.”

still trying to figure out how they're bringing in jenkins, uriguen, and dell'orto and only losing one guy from the lineup (inglot).

singh
shabaz
barrick
courtney
singer
rooda
dell'orto
jenkins
uriguen
milner
nguyen

how do you keep that at 4.5? no chance. my guess is that you'll see one or two of their young guys (rooda, milner, nguyen) transfer somewhere they can get some money and get in the lineup. either way, uva is gonna be top 10 for another 4 years or so.

Jenkins wont stay there 4 years, but having him there one or two will definitely drive recruiting. Sucks we didnt get him

UVA is number one so you can't say the result is surprising even though it is disappointing. Time to head to Europe and bring in a big time foreign junior.

exactly. uriguen won't stay four years either, but they'll be a top 5 team for the next 2 years in large part because of those guys, so they'll get their pick of the top recruits for the next few years.

with klegou in the lineup next year, we are just one guy short of the top 5. there are still some good guys out there, so we've just gotta hope we can sign one or two of them.

Seems like we never can get that big break with a recruit.

How do you figure?
We've been plenty spoiled in a lot of sports. Tennis isn't really an exception, we have no shortage of great players on the men's side. Recruiting hasn't been a problem.

Guess it just feels that way after this and Bone. Rough month or so not landing those two.

Gou is a really nice kid, and his serve is huge. Biggest serve we have ever had here. And he could possibly turn out to be better than Conor.

I've always believed that there is a large grouping of Aggies who believe Karma will never side w/ A&M, that life's breaks will always go against A&M.

They allow their selective memory to let this unifying theme permeate in their mind. They forget about any successes our athletics program may have and instead focus on the misses, losses and negative events in general. Its a victim complex of immense proportions.

For the life of me I don't understand how anyone can lie to themselves with such vociferousness.

Let the facts shape your view of the world, not the other way around.
