Even NCAA champions generally have little to no success on the tour. Austin's a top 40 0r 50 college player. I watched him play in the US Open last year and there was a huge gap between him and the pro he played. Unless he's sick of going to school and has a sponsor or wealthy parents, I can't imagine him going pro at this time.

He is the best player on the Texas A&M team. Wins in the high percentages and has a ton of upside. Needs to improve his footwork to gain a step to the ball but has very high tennis IQ.

If he wants to become a pro it will take more time to get better in college than it would if he practiced and trained everyday , slept well and ate properly. None of which happens at the college level. College students have a poor sleep regimen and tend to eat bad stuff too much of the time.

IMO he reminds me a bunch of Jack Brasington who played at Texas in the late 90s.

Jack never played consistantly higher than three singles while in college. He became the all time win leader at Texas doing so. I never would of believed he could of won at the pro level.

However, when he got out of school he began training , eating right and sleeping regularly full time. Within a couple of years he made main draw at every grand slam event. He was never a top pro but enjoyed a very good run.

Austin K reminds me of Jack. He wins a bunch at his spot, plays good doubles and competes hard. He has been the most consistant player at ATM since Madden..

If the kid goes he will be a big loss to ATM but he has the stuff.

Pretty sure this is more than a rumor.
Get out and enjoy watching Austin at the NCAA's while you still can.

I'll go a step further and say this is what pushed Jarmere to picking UVA.

Will be fun to see what Austin can do as a pro. I predict he will have more success in the pros than any other recent A&M player. It's hard to believe he's still only 18.

this would be a legitimate conclusion to draw given the circumstances, but fortunately, it's not true.

not saying that austin won't go pro in the near future, that's obviously up to him, his family, and his coaches. but him leaving school next year is not why jarmere chose uva.

Curious, how can you say that if Austin is indeed leaving that did not sway JJ at all in making his decision?

i don't want to sound like i'm mr. inside information or anything like that. i just know that we didn't lose out on jarmere because he was afraid austin was going to leave before they got a chance to be teammates (and/or doubles partners).
