His wife Amy has breast cancer. He is suspending his schedule until... whenever. Major surgery is imminent. Extremely BAD BULL. Just lost a childhood friend/Corps buddy's wife to brain cancer 2 weeks ago.

I don't read it that way at all. I read it as "it's a shame that bad things happen to good people".

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Phil and his family and anyone battling cancer and illness.
