Anybody out there play on your High School golf team? This time of year I always monitor the Aggies golf progress on www.golfstat.com and for the last few years the state of Oregon has had their state finals scores posted. It amazes me had bad some of the scores are. A girl in 6A (I assume that's the highest) shot 195-122. How do you shot 195?? If you 4 putt every green, it's still taking almost 7 to get it there. And then after that, how are you 73 shots better the next day?? Putting, I guess
Look at the scores in the lower divisions, 54 of 90 girls averaged a 100 or worse on a 5248 yard course. That's 60%. It seems like the teams that make it to the finals would have better golfers. I guess not. I understand that some school may have 1 or 2 kids really into golf and they fill out the team with people who aren't to serious but the team that finished last had a best round of 10 at 114. Didn't they have to beat other teams to get to the state championships?
The teams that finished last in 6A had 2 girls shot 114. The rest in the 120s. So, is that the way it is in Texas? Seems a bit weird to me.
Edit:
I guess I should add that I understand Texas has a lot better golf than Oregon but those numbers still shock me.
