It's like a Dallas paper having a headline "Even without shoes, Arkansas claims track title".

Very low class IMO.

Perhaps the best day ever for us in NCAA history (two NCAA titles in an hour) and the local paper says "No Aggie Joke". Its an insult.

Like it or not, "Aggie Joke" as a phrase is a slice of Texan/American culture -- like blonde jokes, "A guy walks into a bar" jokes, knock-knock jokes, etc.

I live in Arkansas and saw the Democrat Gazette today. The article appears ON TOP of the front page of sports section, OVER anything written about Arkansas' first College World Series win in 20 years.

I don't see it as a slap..they were looking for something catchy...saying we were no joke works for me...it's the truth

I get it objective aggie, I think all of us old enough to remember the rivalry with the razorbacks get it also. From their perspective, we haven't yet played the game in dallas,yet we have reintroduced ourselves by beating them on the last hole for the golf championship, and then going into their famed track venue and taking both titles. I note a bit of sarcasm in that headline. Let's hope we can continue this trend in dallas.

I was in NW Arkansas this weekend and saw that headline and article. Some of my wife's family lives there, so I'm there a couple of times a year and the paper doesn't seem to have any malicious intentions against A&M. It's a relatively small paper and when you read the whole paper, you see that it has a relaxed feel and is obviously more likely to print headlines like this than the New York Times. At the same time, I thought it was a juvenile headline that seemed odd even for that paper. More like a school newspaper's headline.

yeah, same as racial jokes. If enough Aggies sack up and quit acting like it's cool to be considered dumb, then those dumbass jokes will slow down.

That's my favorite part of the post. What, are we too progressive in 2009 to make Aggie jokes? Seriously you make it sound like racism or homophobia! I remember Aggie joke books selling in the MSC as recently as the late 90s!!! It's not like its a dark part of our past, like slavery or the holocaust. There are plenty of Baylor jokes ("Why do you have to take 2 or more Baylor grads fishing? Because if you take only 1 he'll drink all of your beer", t.u. jokes, etc. Hell we don't even call t.u. by its proper name and we call them tea sips...but we expect to be treated like the queen of England? Plus, like I said - it's a compliment - we got top billing on that day's paper.

It's a small-town laid back paper. It would be like if the Eagle ran a "Bears still not comfortable dancing" headline if Baylor blew a chance to make the NCAAs in hoops.

The paper is out of touch. If anything is a joke it is the state of Arkansas. Their headline was an attempt to minimize the accomplishment.
