I'll be going to Destin in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to play. I've been there a bunch of times and am familiar with a lot of the courses but never had a chance to play.

So, for those who have played out there, what's the best? Should I just play one of the Sandestin courses or is there something better?

I played Regatta Bay when we were in Destin last month. Very nice course.

JB,

How crowded was it? I'm looking to play on a Tuesday or Wednesday around 3 or 4. Was hoping to finish in 2 1/2 hours.

2 1/2 Hours is unreasonable for a deserted course. Is it possible? Sure, but nobody should aim for it.

And sorry I have no Destin recomendations. I have played a few courses in the area but can't remember the names of any of them.

Played Kelly Plantation last week. Tuesday afternoon 3pm tee-time 50 bucks. The pro worked with us on the amount.

Best course in Destin. Played Regatta Bay last year and would recommend either one.

Physical,

How crowded was it? Could I play as a single and not have to play through a bunch of groups?

we had 3 playing and no one was added to our group. It wasn't crowded at all when we played.

Wasn't crowded at all when we played. I agree with the other poster about getting done in 2 1/2 hours. Playing by yourself could get you done in that amount of time.

There is not a course in the state that's crowded right now. That changes as the 'birds start flying in about October.

Played Kelly Plantation Thursday around noon. Got rained out Wednesday. They paired me up with a kid and his dad. As we got to talking, the kid just finished a tennis career at North Carolina. Turns out he was part of the doubles team that beat Pollock & Krajicek. Nice guy, had a lot of positive things to say about A&M.

I paid $100 for the round, I thought the lay-out was great but it could have been in better shape.

You may have already gone, but I'll add a little to this.
Family has been vacationing in Destin every year for awhile now and I've tried a bunch of the courses. I play single and try to fly through like you want to. Works sometimes...Sometimes not.
Kelly Plantation is nice. Regatta Bay too. True resort courses. Not killers and beautiful. If you want the challenge, go check out Burnt Pine or Raven at Sandestin. This summer I played the Baytowne course and it wasn't my favorite of the Sandestin ones (Raven was closed after aeration that day..blah). I also went east a little and played The Hombre. Got paired up with a couple of local guys who said the best course in the area if you are willing to shell out a little extra was Camp Creek. It's right on Hwy 90 and easy to find like they all are. It has a website. Looks great, but I happened to be down there when they were doing aeration too. Guess it was a popular time for that and I wasn't going to play them in that shape.
