Didn't see it posted anywhere.

Good start by Blake, Williams sisters, and Roddick yesterday.

Rod's backhand is still bothering me. I'm glad he's using it more and he looks a little more comfortable than he did earlier in the year, but it's still not very fluid. His speed has definitely improved... maybe even since Wimbledon.

I think I'll go out on a limb and predict that Fed wins it. By the way Fed's first round opponent was the NCAA champion - the freshman from Ole Miss. Fed won 6-1,6-3,7-5. Had to be quite an experience for that young man.

Roddick has a pretty tough draw, but hopefully he'll be able to make it to the semifinals.

Besides Federer, I really like del Potro's draw, if he stays healthy and doesn't have any 5 setters I can see him getting to the finals, possibly winning the whole thing. He's one of the few guys with enough power to just blow Andy Murray off the court.

Don't think Venus's knee will let her finish out the week...

Rafa about to start up what he hopes to be his comeback march, and attempt at the career slam.

As I've stated on all the previous slam threads...I'm a huge Federer fan, and I predict him to win his 6th consecutive.

Regardless, Rafa at full strength is a huge plus for tennis, so I hope he makes it to the quarters or semi's.

Well, someone earlier stated a misconception that involves Federer (not directly but by inference). Federer has enough power to blow any player in tennis out of the stadium. When he has to he can hit mid 140s on his serve.

I don't think Fed has ever hit mid 140s.
He tops out about 135 when he "has" to hit it. I know 135 was his fastest serve against Roddick at Wimbledon (when he "had" to hit 50 aces).

Talk about false misconceptions.

Has Federer ever even hit 140?

At the US Open one year when he completely dimsantled Roddick he hit one 143 mph. This was also the match he hit one of the sickest shots I have ever seen. Roddick fired a missile return right at Federer's feet. I mean the ball bounced just at his feet. Federer flicked a missile right back at Roddick to win the point. Roddick had the most defeated look on his face. Roddick made a perfect return and it mattered little.

I researched it and I can't find anything to back my claim of 143 mph. I am simply going by memory. It was a night match and Federer absolutely beat the hell out of Roddick when Roddick was playing some great tennis.

Now that my boy Fed has everything he wants, he moves down a rung or two in my "rooting for" rankings. Nadal is my new favorite just because the stronger their rivalry is, or the closer it is I should say, the more revered this time will be in tennis history.

I want Nadal to win and complete his career slam at age 23?, move to 7 career slams and continue right on his way to being considered on of the top 5 players of all time (with Fed/Borg/Pete/Laver give or take).

2nd best outcome for me would be a Roddick redemption for Wimbledon.

3rd best outcome would be Federer extending all his amazing records and streaks.

Then there's a significant dropoff, but my 4th choice to win is Del Potro. I don't really care about anyone else. As long as Murray doesn't win I'll be happy. I revel is that guys failure for some reason. Same for Djokovic.

Way to go Melanie Oudin. Look out for this young lady in the years to come. Glad to see an American youngster rising up

Dementieva is a favorite of mine, along with Dulko, for obvious reasons....but if anyone is going to take her out, I'm glad it's a young American who represents the future of US women's tennis.

her post-match interview on ESPN was great as well. For a 17 year old, she's very mature. Talking about the American girls need to root for each other and work with each other to rise to the top, instead of trying to just be the best by themselves, that it will help out the game and their game. She points to all the Russians who all work together and cheer each other on, and all the top ranked Russians that we see now.

If Roddick could go through djokovic after what happened last year, that would be the best outcome for me.

Can you imagine the Williams sisters working with or pulling for anyone other than themselves? They epitomize self centeredness.

Personally I'm hoping Andy Roddick can find some magic and win it all. On the women's side I hope anyone with a last name other than Williams wins.

Last year, the often injured Djokovic was carrying some injury, and Roddick was asked about it in his press conference after his previous match. Roddick made a joke where he listed the myriad of things Djokovic was suffering from, ranging from an ankle injury to anthrax. He further hinted Djokovic was quick to call the trainer whenever he needed a breather. Djokovic didn't see the humor, and after he beat Roddick in 4, in a match which Roddick really should have taken to 5, he made some remarks that the crowd didn't appreciate, they booed him, etc. Now both players say the whole thing was overblown.

I'm loving this girl who's playing against Venus right now.

Why? Because she has some skill, holding her own in the 2nd set, and she doesn't sound like Timothy Treadwell getting eaten by a bear every time she hits the damn ball.

Watching the Oudin/Sharapova match now... I still cheer for Maria most times but I would love to see Oudin pull this out

Fed beats Hewitt after losing the first set.

In the women's draw, I'm all about Dulko. One more win and maybe she'll start getting some much needed TV time.

Kept switching to football games and forgot to go back. Did Sharapova's injury have a noticeable effect or did Oudin just outplay her in the 3rd?

Unfortunately, Roddick's summer of losing extremely tight matches continues, as he loses to Isner 7-6 6-3 3-6 5-7 7-6. His early season success in tie breaks has really vanished.

Gotta give credit to Isner though. He played great serve and volley tennis and every time Roddick challenged him to make a shot, he did. He took a lot of aggressive risks and never missed it seemed.

Dulko sneaks onto tv every once in awhile...Seems like I've seen her and that headband of hers the past few Wimbledons and what not. Isn't this her first US Open, though?

Oudin is up a break in the 3rd set against Petrova.

I'm glad Clijsters beat Venus yesterday, just because I HATE hearing Venus's grunt/scream.

I wonder when people are going to jump off the Andy Murray bandwagon. Oh, I guess that would be now. Yeah, his game is SO suited for the hard courts. Is that why he just got PASTED in straight sets?
TXAggie2011
How long do you want to ignore this user?

ce1994, don't act like today's outing was anything but 180 degrees different from normal Andy Murray.

The guy is one hell of a player who has had one hell of a season up to today.
The guy has beaten Roddick, Nadal, Djokovic, Blake, Del Potro all in hard court finals this year.

Go back to 2008 and you've got a US Open Final mixed in with five more hard court championships.

After claims that the guy could hit the mid 140s when he wants to, I have to say it's a little underwhelming to only have one 143 mph serve to look at.
