Wednesday, October 2, 2002
COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Jack Nicklaus II, co-designer of the Traditions Club at Texas A&M golf course, walked the course on Wednesday, fine-tuning the design before construction equipment for the project arrives at the site within the week.

"There's no question that we have a great team in place with the Melrose Corporation and Troon Golf," said Nicklaus, who designed the course along with his father, the legendary Jack Nicklaus. "We've had a great working relationship with Melrose for several years. They've always gotten the job done nicely and on time."

Nicklaus said the driving range should be completed by next summer to allow the A&M golf teams to begin practicing at the facility, while the course should be ready to play by the fall of 2003.

"We are thrilled," A&M men's golf coach J.T. Higgins said after walking the course with Nicklaus and A&M women's coach Jeanne Sutherland "I was especially excited to hear his ideas on the practice area. We will have a golf course and a practice facility that will rival any team in the Big 12 Conference and maybe the country. This will be phenomenal."

"It was fun to walk with Jack and listen to his vision for Traditions," Sutherland said. "Everyone involved is committed to making this a fantastic facility."
