UNI was assigned to Lincoln for the 1st and 2nd rounds. Wichita State was assigned to Ames for the 1st and 2nd rounds.
UNI is more than 250 miles closer to Ames than to Lincoln.
Wichita State is 150 miles closer to Lincoln than to Ames.
Coastal Carolina got sent to LINCOLN for the 1st round. Over 1300 miles.
The committee obviously did not look at travel considerations here. You can find all sorts of similar instances in the bracket. That is a smokescreen anyway.
The Pac-10 has almost always had more teams in the tournament than any other conference, but the top two Pac-10 teams have NEVER been placed in the same regional. And yet here, not just the top two, but the top THREE teams from the conference--all seeded, two of which were in the Final Four last season and the other in the Elite Eight, and all legitimate candidates to make it to the Final Four this year--have been placed in the same region. Not to mention a team tied for fourth in the conference.
That is ridiculous. The Big 12 got screwed in this bracket. The Big 12 rep on the selecction committee (from KSU, I believe) either has no clout on the committee or is completely incompetent to allow this to happen.
