Looking ahead the 5 major conferences of volleyball...Pac 10, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, and ACC accounted for nearly half the field 30/64
In the first round
SEC (4) went 4-0
Big 10 (7) went 5-2
Pac 10 (8) went 6-2
ACC (5) went 1-4
Big 12 (6) went 5-1 with Oklahoma the lone loss to USC
2nd Round
SEC (4) went 2-2 and have 2 of 16 in field
Big 10 (7) went 4-1 and have 4 of 16 in field
Pac 10 (8) went 2-4 and have 2 of the 16 in the field
ACC (5) still has Florida St playing tomorrow with likely win
BIG 12 (5) went 5-0 and has 37.5% of field with 5 of 16
Unfortunately 4 of 5 all in same regional which guarentees at least one team in the Final Four but negates much of any other team from Big 12 beside Baylor to advance to Final Four.
As for top 16 seeds most advanced except for LSU (Whoop), Washington, UCLA (Baylor defeated them) and Oregon leaving some potential good matches
as for breakdown of each regional...
Penn State has been unstoppable all year and should continue down the path to the title match
A near scare by St Mary's taking Stanford to 5 (15-13) but the Cardinal pull it out to keep all top seeds in that part of regional alive.
The third seeded Florida St team was a MAJOR surprise to be ranked that high and may very well continue to do well as national seeds continue to fall in that side of the bracket.
The Big 12 regional is a shame becuase without tooting any horn of A&M (bias) or Neb or Iowa State any of those teams could win the Florida State quarter of the bracket the way they are playing right now but must face Texas in that quarter. While the games are played in Omaha the spot runs through Texas.
