Anyone know how her training is going? When can we expect to see her compete?

Bonnie participated this past weekend. In the 60m hurdles, she was 18th - improved considerably from her December effort. In the long jump, she was 25th. In the shot put, she was 24th.

Going from a tiny high school to Aggieland is a huge, huge jump. She will do ok - she is just getting started. Maybe the pentathlon will be her best "event."

Comparing just her last weekend's results to last year's Big 12 Indoor meet:
- her 10.43m in the shot put would have finished 8th last year
- her 4.89m in the long jump would have finished 14th
- her 9.08 sec in the 60m hurdles would have finished 7th

Big problem is that only one of last year's 14 pentathlon participants graduated.

That's an unbelievable combination of events! She THREW SHOT, ran a SPRINT HURDLES, and did the long Jump all in the same event? Go online and google what college shotputters look like, and the college sprint hurdlers.

They've gotta be thinking pentathalon long term. Good news is she doesn't have to be the Big 12 champion this year, so she can just keep working hard and improving, and letting those other 14 graduate, and by her Jr. year she should be a terror.

Hey Bucketrunner, fancy meeting you over here. Richardson competes in pentathalon events tonight - 60 meter hurdles at 6:00, high jump at 6:35, shot put at 7:50, long jump at 8:40, 800 meters at 9:05. I love the things I've read about this kid. Most of the more glamorous events in this meet are tomorrow, but we're going tonight too - just to see Bonnie.

I hear she's also a pretty tough basketball player.

Not creepy at all as she is from where I grew up. I want her to succeed.

Haas, wish we could come, but I'm staying in by the fire. We are bringing 3 with us Sunday, though. Hoping for a good result on the court!

Bonnie placed 2nd in the Pentathalon at the SEC/Big 12/Pac 10 Challenge Meet at Gilliam tonight. Brianne Theisen of Oregon was first with 4198 points (highest score in the nation so far this season). Richardson was 2nd with 3647 points, Daphne Fitzpatrick of A&M was 3rd with 3627. Bonnie placed 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles, 3rd in high jump, 2nd in shot put, 5th in long jump, and 4th in the 800 meter run. I'm not much of a track expert, but in some events, Bonnie's form/technique looks "different" than most of the other competitors. I think maybe this is because she is mostly self taught, with very little HS coaching. Seems like there is tremendous upside as she continues to train with the best coaches in the nation. You can already tell she's a very gritty competitor. Anyway, she's off to a great start as a pentathlete.

The girl from Oregon was an amazing athlete. She's very slender. After she won the hurdles and high jump - I thought we'd make up some ground on her in shot put. We were thinking there was no way that little skinny girl could be good at it, but she won that too. She won each of the individual events.

I've been checking this forum off and on tonight, hoping you'd report in. That's a wonderful start, especially for a freshman! With our great track coach and Bonnie's talent, the future will be very exciting.

Oh - and about her technique: That caliche track is a story unto itself. I'm sure the Rochelle coach did his best, but in such a small school, facilities and equipment are few and far between.

Bonnie's results in the Texas A&M Challenge meet. Excellent start in her A&M career.

Bonnie beat by 20 points fellow Aggie Daphne Fitzpatrick. Daphne finished 9th in last year's indoor pentathlon in the Big 12 meet. Bonnie's point total tonight would have placed her in 5th position in last year's indoor meet.

Her points: 60mH - 922, HJ - 818, SP - 664, LJ - 557, 800m - 686

Compared to last year's Big 12 indoor meet she would have finished:
5th in the 60m hurdles
tied for 3rd in the high jump
9th in the shot put
13th in the long jump
10th in the 800m run

Sophomore Brianne Theisen from Oregon finished 3rd last year in the indoor NCAA meet with 4321 points. She was easily the best freshman pentathlon competitor in the country.
