The Women should win the Big 12 Championship but it may be close. The MEN have a tough battle on their hands against Oklahoma and Nebraska.

On Friday, the women lost about 25 expected points due to the results of the pentathlon, long jump, and 5000m events. The men lost several expected points in the long jump. If we continue at this pace, we will definitely not win either trophy.

Some projections---

MEN:
Oklahoma: ~ 110
Aggies: ~ 105
Nebraska: ~ 100

WOMEN:
Aggies: ~ 125
TT: ~ 105
Nebraska: ~ 90

The women have 13.5 points. We should get at least 20 points in each of the 60m, 200m, and 60mH races. We should get about 10 points in each of the 400m, 600m, 4x400, and triple jump competitions.

The men have 10.5 points. We should get at least 20 points in the 400m and triple jump, 15+ points in the 200m, and around 10 points in each of the 60m, 600m, and 4x400 events.

Looks like Oklahoma will win the Men's title. We have to pick up a lot of points in the 400m race to have a chance.

Jessica Beard shattered the Big 12 and Lied Center records with a 51.15 run in the 400m race.

OU MEN got only 2 points in the 800m, which will put us about even with them. If we can get more points in the 200m and 3000m than they do, we have a slight chance for the MEN's title.

We have to get at least 20 points more in the triple jump than OU does.

Women earned 29 points in the 200m! Has that many points been scored in one event by one team before? Top four places to the Aggies. Porscha and Jessica times are automatic qualifying times.

Roughly - The MEN need about 8 more points than OU in the 3000m and triple jump for us to have a chance.

Men have to settle for third. OU and Neb will fight it out for the trophy. In the last few events, the Aggies have done less than expected while Sooners have done a little better than expected. Results - we lose!

if those projections hold, will it be a surprising result?

Aggie WOMEN win again!! Men came close but did not perform quite as well as expected and finish third.

In the NC, the MEN should be favored, but the WOMEN will be expected to finish behind Oregon.

In the NC, both MEN and WOMEN have a chance to score 50 points, which is a lot of points. However, our MEN triple jumpers will have to do much, much better than they did today.

Men seem to be built to win national titles not conference championships. With fewer scholarships i think the coaches have to make some sort of choice to aim for one or the other. Obviously both or possible but our men's team is built to national titles.

I'm disappointed with how the men performed at conference but it does not take away from our chances to win a national title. The triple jumpers must do better but it will probably only take 45 points or so to win. We can do that. The women should win as well. Oregon is a bit of a threat but they do not have the depth we have. Our short sprinters and hurdlers must do well but they have consistently achieved this year. No reason to think otherwise at nationals.

Their strong returning runners along super-star freshman Jordan Hasay will make Oregon the clear favorites among the WOMEN. Anything can happen - just look at last year when we were the clear favorite and finished second.

The returning runners along with the addition of super-stars Curtis Mitchell, Tabarie Henry, and Demetrius Pinder will make the Aggies the early favorite among the MEN but the championship may hinge on the performances of the jumpers. Going into the Big 12 Meet, we had the top three triple jumpers in the US (Zuheir Sharif, Julian Reid, & Tyron Stewart) and got only 13 points. We got 14 points at Nationals last year from the jumpers and will need as much this year. We finished 3rd, 6th, 9th, & 10th last year at Nationals in the triple and all four jumpers are back.

Early projections
WOMEN: Oregon might hit 60 points. The Ags around 45-55.
MEN: Ags and Oregon around 40-50 points

Mitchell, Henry, and Pinder should be responsible for at least 20 points, hopefully 30.

The Aggie men still look good for the indoor title. Nationals are an all new ballgame as you need top level depth that A&M has. In 2000 Stanford won the outdoor national title after only finishing something like 6th in their conference meet. I understand that the April issue of Track and Field News that comes out this week now projects Florida to win the outdoor tile while they still project the Aggie women to take it all.
