Hopefully one of them can pull out a national championship race! Go Ags!

It would not surprise me a bit nor would multiple ladies doing so. It would take quite an incredible performance but I think a few have it in them if they want it bad enough.

No real news here, as usaswimming keeps an updated top times list all season. But it's awesome to see so many Ags ranked so high! But man, are Stanford and Georgia tough this year...

I believe they took 12 swimmers to Minny, 12 swimmers to Columbus, and 13 swimmers + 1 diver last year.

They could take 1 or 2 more divers.

for the contenders how many swimmers and divers usually go?

It really just depends, there's more than one way to skin a cat. For example, this year, Stanford, who is a contender, is sending 12 swimmers, whereas Arizona, who is not, has the max 18 qualified. last year, Cal, who was the National Champ, had I believe 17 or 18 roster spots used. It's not about how many, it's about where they are. But 14 is definitely a good number with the quality we have, especially in the senior class (Kristen, Julia, Alia).

I scored the psych sheets this morning, and without diving A&M is 5th as seeded. Pretty big jump to 4th, Florida who also has good divers, and 3rd Cal, who doesn't. Divers alone won't make up the gap, but they'll certainly help push the swimmers that way. USC, in sixth, has probably the best diving squad of the top 10 teams, so we'll be fighting them off.

Here's a complete review of the psych sheet scoring, if you're curious:

Blastoff - you're right that quantity doesn't matter nearly as much as quality in the swimmers. If a swimmer doesn't finish in the top 16 there are no points. So placing is everything. Number of athletes may have some value with relays - especially if a team could rest a few swimmers for finals. But that is risky at NCAAs - since prelims is usually very fast.

Don't know if you watched the video on Swimmingworldmagazine.com with Jim Henry (tu assistant coach). He hints that tu might use some different swimmers in prelims. I hope he does because tu isn't fast deep enough into their roster in most strokes. Maybe they could do this with breaststroke. But they could easily end up on consolation finals with the wrong choices.

I did see that. He might be just trying to stir the pot. I could see it if you didn't think you had a chance at the Championship final. Because with only 14 relays, there's no concern about NOT finaling.

One comment on the site predicted that t.u. would finish third, saying he thinks they're going to drop a lot of time (he's another internet swim blogger), but I can't see that. I'd be shocked if they were able to jump A&M, but even then, I think third is a stretch.

BTW, if anyone wants to go on there and post their top 10 prediction, I'd love to see them. (Even if you have to stay anonymous due to connections to the program ;-))

Jaele is in, after finishing third on the 1-meter. Janie was 8th, which puts her in the 21st slot. Zone D qualifies 12 women, so Janie would have a shot at qualifying regardless of what else she does (although she'll probably make it in on platform anyways).

Tough zone for Jaele, behind Nastia and Kelci Bryant of Minnesota. Maren Taylor of Texas finished 4th, to lock up a spot at NCAA's.

5th place on 3-meter and 3rd place on platform guarantee a spot, although after repeats, fourth on platform or 7th on 3-meter would do it for Janie. 6th on platform wouldn't put her in any better position than she's in now.

Congratulations to the Aggie divers on making it to NCAAs! Good luck the rest of the weekend! On a side note-as a swimmer I do not know much about diving (they all look good to me!) but I will say that the girls on this diving team are awesome! They are so talented and supportive of each other...I swear Haley and Jo cheer for every single girl on that team and sincerely want them to do well and show exactly what it means to be a true Aggie teammate. Way to go Aggie Divers!

BTHO NCAAs!

Aggies are going to have quite a few girls there and it will be exciting to see what happens!

Potvin is in now too after the three-meter...Aggies are now up to a school record 16 qualifiers...Lujan needs a top five finish on the tower Sunday to get in...there is a lot of gamesmanship by coaches that goes on on the final day in the scramble for the last few spots...will be interesting to see...also of note, Alyssa Conner is now the 3rd alternate to NCAA's (i.e. - 3 people drop out and she would be in; not at all likely but possible)

I was way off on my tower projection...only the top 3 girls made it in...all the girls that were already in the NCAA meet dove down and the ones not in got to fight it out

Lujan was fourth and is the first diver not to make NCAA's out of the entire zone field...she missed third by less than three points and second by eight points...so close...great job by her though...beat a lot of girls that beat her at Big 12's...

At the end of the day, 2 girls and a guy advance to NCAA's this weekend for the Ags
