How many Aggies have been World Champion at anything? I guess Super Bowl wins count, so there's at least a few NFL players. A long jumper won the indoor world championships last weekend. Do we have any others? Some other track people maybe?

I believe mike stulce also owns Olympic gold? I know he's on this board so perhaps he can confirm.

We had an A&M archer win a few world titles while in school a few years back too.

Yep, Barnes won gold in shot in 1996, Silver in 1988. Also set the indoor and outdoor WR's in 1990, but received a 27 month ban later that year for anabloic steroids, then tested positive again in 1998 for andro. Still has the shotput WR (May 20th is it's 20th anniversary), but under current drug testing rules, it probably wouldnt've been allowed to stand.

He competed at the 2005 World Long Drive golfing Championships, after being banned from the Olympics for life, but didn't win.

Not one of the World Champions we're more proud of...

A Gold medal and a lifetime ban? What a well-rounded athlete

Both Barnes and Stulce received drug suspensions in an event where probably no one they competed against was not using performance enhancing drugs. If you are going to apply the statement not one we are to be proud of you can also include many football and baseball players who played here during the last three decades and were not subject to the same type of testing. The folks who want to slam these guys are hypocrits. In baseball you are seeing the tip of the iceberg of athletes who used drugs including A-Rod, Clemens, Sosa, Bonds, and McGwire (andro). The actual list of who used these drugs is many times larger and the list in the NFL would be greater still. These guys share a common trait besides using performance enhancing drugs, they desired to win at all costs. A trait common to many on this board who will distance themselves from someone who gets caught and praise the ones who got away with it. When we see so many children born out of wedlock to athletes or see them beat their wives/girlfriends we see that there are other problems that are even more embarrassing.

^^^LOL at the guy trying to defend steroid users. Sure, other former Aggies may have used them. But it's not embarrassing unless you get caught. Twice. And banned forever. You must BE Randy Barnes!

Arturo Barrios is a former track athlete and a world record holder for the 20K and 1 hour run. I don't think he ever held the 10K record, but I could be wrong.
