any news of Davis' status for the outdoor season?

I've been wondering about Davis as well.

Also curious about how Porsha Lucas is doing. I know she missed events at the NCAA Indoors because of a back problem. She ran one leg of a 4x200 relay today, but I'm wondering if she's back to full speed. Thanks to anyone who can respond to this.

Lucas ran yesterday at the Texas Relays. I know that she at least ran on the winning 4x200 and 4x100 teams, but don't know if she ran other races.

Does anyone close to the team have any insight into Wayne Davis' condition? I would imagine that he will probably redshirt the outdoor season, since there is only 1 remaining meet before the Big12 Championships.

I understand that he has a "back issue", but that there is the possibility he'll be set by conference time. If not, your'e right in that he'll most likely redshirt.

Does anybody know what's happened to Julian Reid this year? He's still on the roster, but I haven't seen his name on any results.

Yes, Wayne is redshirting the outdoor season. I talk to him pretty often and the healing process is going well

He is sitting out the outdoor season, but not necessarily redshirting.

just to learn: why wouldn't he redshirt?

Is there a question of whether he will be back or not?

I don't have any inside info or anything, so don't misread me as saying he WON'T.

But in track, unlike basketball or football, it's not always worth keeping another guy on scholarship for another season, when it could mean not being able to sign some stud recruit that would be here for 4 years, especially when a team is recruiting at the level that we are.

As far as I understand the rules, the coaches don't have to make the decision right now, and might wait until it gets closer to that time to figure out which will be better for them.

Jeneba Tarmoh "red-shirted" a year.

I beleve Jeneba sat out the 2009 season in accordance with NCAA rules after transfering from Tennessee, just as Kelsey Bone will sit out the 2010-2011 basketball season after transfering from South Carolina. That's a different situation than a redshirt year.

I'mnot saying it doesn't happen. I just don't think it's as clear cut of a decision as you see in some other sports.

Wayne would RS just like Jeneba. There is no difference in the situation.

Jeneba was forced to sit out the season due to transfer rules while Wayne was "forced" to sit out the season due to injury. There is not any difference between the RS.

The argument that was being made against Wayne using a RS year was that Henry would rather use his scholarship for someone else during Wayne's 5th year instead of renewing Wayne's scholarship.

clw - I'm not arguing one way or the other re Wayne Davis, but there absolutely is a difference. The only thing the same is the result - a missed season.

Sitting a year due to transfer rules is not a situation where there is any choice. It is a situation where a student athlete is INELIGIBLE due to NCAA rules.

That is not the case with a redshirt year due to injury or coaches decision.

Apples and Oranges...........
