The Aggie mens tennis team takes on the Baylor Bears tomorrow (Wednesday) at 6:00 pm at the Mitchell Tennis Center. This is the biggest home match of the year, and while Baylor is clearly one of the best teams in the country, this Aggie team is more talented in many ways than we have had in the last few years. The Aggies are well positioned coming down the stretch to earn a good seed in the NCAA's. A Baylor win would really solidify that position. Hopefully we will have decent weather and a great crowd to help the guys in this tough match. If you haven't seen this years group in person, do yourself a favor and take a look at them. This could be an exciting finish to this years season.

Is the Dark Lord of the Apocolypse still coaching the German National Professional Team stationed in Waco?

Yes Coach Knoll is still at Baylor.

Raven's no fun! Quit being nice to the Dark Lord and let's bring back the Baylor Tennis hate! That was much more fun then the "it would be nice if we could win that one" crap.

lol. I have a long history with Coach Knoll. He has done a remarkable job with Baylor, but his overall philosophy of recruiting and player development was very much at odds with what we were doing at A&M, especially under Coach Cass. That said, I don't think there will be any motivational problem with our team for this match. They know a lot about the history and although Austin was the only player on the team that was here two years ago, all the kids know that this is a match that the coaches and fans really want to win for more reasons than one. Should be a good one.

OK, Raven does have a sense of humor...Good. I still don't like Baylor and their greaseball coach. I hope he has changed the oil in his hair since I met him last, which was back in 2001.

Is it true that Knoll is pretty much black balled from getting hired anywhere else....He has done a good job at gaylor you would think he would've been offered jobs at larger more historic tennis programs?

I know from Cass and other coaches I once knew, he wasn't thought off very highly and a lot of that was due to his recruiting tactics. His coaching skills may be solid, but he has a bad reputation in coaching cirlces and many think he is a borderline cheater...not really breaking the rules, but is considered much to close to that line for some coaches. Don't know if that has change over the past 10 years, but that's the way it was back in the hayday of the Dark Lord.

I don't think he has changed very much at all. Still not very well liked in coaching circles, but he probably does not care. There is no question he got close to the line back in the day, but part of that problem was with the NCAA and interpretation of amatuer as it related to European kids who played in their developmental league. I have never heard that he was blackballed by anyone, and with the success he has had at Baylor, I'm not sure he is looking. They have had some very good wins of late and are a solid top ten team. We may be right about at that level, also. Should make for a great match. A vocal crowd would be a big plus for our team.

Up a few breaks on doubs 1, 2, on serve on three.

I admit I don't keep up with tennis much but did play in high school and enjoyed going to games while at aTm. This is the first time I have seen the games on line and now that I know I can watch them will probably do so more often.

My question is how do teams place their players. I noticed that our #1 doubles team is ranked 5th and playing in the first spot. Baylors #1 team is ranked 78th and playing in the second spot. This seems like they are tanking the first match to set up the next two. Any knowledge on this?

Next Question:

I have never seen the strategy of the server's partner standing behind him for the serve. I don't see much of an advantage or reason behind that.

Great Statement - My wife made me put it on the fridge! She played college tennis in California and has been complaining for years that US tennis is being hurt by universities targeting too many foreigners.

Women's tennis ranked #1, men's basketball #10, women's basketball #4, men's tennis #6 (or something like that), guys like Ivory Wade and Tyler Stephenson and Ahmad Dixon picking BU over a&M. Sure does seem like those folks are in the process of building a program . . . new football practice facilities, updated tennis facilities, expanded softball facilities. And somebody just gave 'em $200 million . . . somebody must be cheating. Right?
