Looking at the POP list (performance list) and projecting the finals of the NCAA T&F c'ship at Eugene, I ran out the following:

Men's top-5:
1. A&M - 69 points
2. Florida - 53
3. U of Ore. - 44 points
4. south carolina - 29 points
5. Stanford - 25 point

Our strengths--sprints,relays, Javelin & Triple jump. Our weakness is the mid & long distance. Our hope here is Stanford cuts into Oregon's distance strength.

Women's top-5:
1. A&M - 75 points
2. Oregon - 58 points
3. Footlocker State - 45 points
4. UTEP - 32 points
5. LSU - 30 points

Our strengths are much like the men -- sprints, hurdles, relays, & triple jump. Ii appears that we ned someone to cut into the Duck's distance strength and that may be Footlocker State.

The structure of the NCAA qualifying is different this year. The East Region will have the top-48 individuals at Greensboro and the west top-48 go to Austin. Each region will send the top-12 to the NCAA finals in Eugene. No automatic qualifiers strictly spots in the Regional by best performance to date.

Very interesting...thanks for the breakdown. Looks like we have a strong chance to win at least 1 more NC this spring.

Florida Men Ready To Duplicate Indoor Success

Chart #1

Mike Holloway’s Gators enjoyed a healthy 13-point margin in winning the NCAA Indoor in March. In our first chart of the outdoor season, the Gainesville Gang enjoys an 8-point margin over defending champ Texas A&M.

Florida is projected to score in a dozen events: 2 in the 100, 400, 110H, 400H, both relays, LJ, 2 in the TJ, SP, JT. For its part, A&M looks at 11 scorers: 100, 2 in the 200, 400, both relays, 3 in the TJ, JT, Decathlon.

With 6 events on tap in which both teams are projected to score (100, 400, 4x1, 4x4, TJ, JT), no end of head-to-head battles could make for one of the more exciting team races in recent memory. The two schools combined currently own 5 of the 8 scoring spots in the TJ.

Oregon will get a lot of local support, but to climb over either of the top 2 would need a lot of comethrough performances, which isn’t out of the question at Hayward Field.

The 10-deep predictions for each event (* = junior; **=soph; *** = frosh, all others are seniors; ’ = foreigner):

Oregon & Texas A&M Women To Battle Again

Chart #1

Last year a strong final day at the NCAA Championships helped propel Texas A&M to its first national women’s title. The victim was Oregon, by 7 points. Vin Lananna’s Ducks then steamrolled their way to this year’s indoor title and with the home-field advantage are favored to win it all in Eugene in June.

Pat Henry’s Aggies, though, are currently slotted only 3 points behind the hosts, so it’s still very much a tossup 2 months out. What does seem clear, however, is that nobody but the two powerhouses have a chance to take home the team trophy.

Both teams are currently projected to have a dozen scorers (top 8).

A&M, of course, is very strong in the sprints & hurdles, and formcharts like this: 2 in the 100 and 200, 1 in the 400, 3 in the 100H, 1 in the 400H, both relays and 1 in the javelin).

Oregon’s strength is more spread out, with these scorers: 100, 200, 400, 2 in the 1500, 2 in the 5000, both relays, pole vault, long jump, heptathlon.

Obviously, the whole thing probably teeters on how they split the points in the 5 events in which they go head to head: 100, 200, 400 and both relays.

The 10-deep predictions for each event (* = junior; **=soph; *** = frosh, all others are seniors; ’ = foreigner:

TOP 10 TEAMS
1. Oregon 67
2. Texas A&M 64
3. Virginia Tech 37
=4 Florida 31
=4 LSU 31
6. Penn State 30
7. UTEP 28
=8 Auburn 27
=8 BYU 27
=8 Tennessee

We could "run" away with it, but I do think it'll be a little more like those last two projections. I wouldn't underestimate what Oregon (especially the women) can pull off, especially with some added quality in the sprints.

BTW, www.tfrrs.org is what the NCAA works with and is pretty much constantly being updated. It's already got results from a meet that happened today.

All the meets in the NCAA are reported to DirectAthletics.com as the official site. It list the top performers in the East Region, The West Region and overall nation. These are the official results that will be the basis for the selections for the top-48 from each Region. After each meet, the operators of the automatic timing systems are required to report the results to Directathletics.com within 24 hours. The revised ranking are posted every 30-minutes. The articles you see by some track sources are using what they project - not the post meet weekly results. I work with this data every week as a college meet Referee here on the Mid-Atlantic.

Everything on DA still has to be approved by the NCAA track and field committee. The official approved season best lists used for qualifying are those on tfrrs.org.

All the meets in the Eastern region have been told to report to Directathletics.com. Where die you get your info?

ncaa.org

Didn't mean to confuse you. DA is the reporting tool used. Tfrrs is powered by DA.

I was just adding to the explanation on the process. Times are reported directly through www.DA.com and/or (I think) tfrrs.org and then reviewed by the NCAA and spat back out into their grand 500 deep POP list.
