Yes, that's correct. The A&M Women's Volleyball team will be playing the Men's National Champion Club Volleyball team.

From A&M Sports Information:

April 17, 2010

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M volleyball team concludes its spring exhibition season with a match against the National Champion Texas A&M Men's Club Team on Monday at the volleyball practice gym in Reed Arena.

First serve is slated for 6 p.m.

Aggie women's head coach Laurie Corbelli welcomes back six letterwinners -- including two starters -- from last year's team that went 20-11, led the nation in both kills and assists per game and was No. 21 in the final AVCA poll after advancing to the NCAA regional semifinals.

Jennifer Banse and Jola Kelner, both seniors on that 2009 team, now serve as the coaches for the men's club team and directed the Aggie men to the 2010 AE NCCS National Volleyball Championship title earlier this month.

Admission is free. Parking also will be free in Lot 100g. Spectator entrance will be at the Reed Arena employee entrance on the east side of the building.

Chairs will be set up around the court, although seating will be limited. Fans are welcome to bring their own folding chairs.

Last weekend, the Aggie women won four of five sets against Sam Houston State, defeating the Bearkats 25-21, 25-17, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19, at the practice gym at Reed Arena.

j/k - the girls are still very good and you're going to see two completely different styles of volleyball

JO, for those of us who want to learn more about the game, care to share what the style differences are?

Also, if anyone brings a camcorder and wants to put the video up on youtube, I'd love to watch.

Well, from watching the match, I could definitely see that the girls started adjusting once they got a better feel for the guys. The guys weren't swinging hard, but were aiming for spots and making sure that the girls were working hard - they definitely did after the first set! I think Kelsey Black made a huge difference; and, while she got blocked a number of times, she won't be going against blocks like that for the most part. I think Chelsea Ringel played pretty well, but she struggled putting the ball away. Her defense and serve receive was pretty solid though. I think Sarah Grace got the wind knocked out of her or something during a collision, and I hope she is fine. She seemed to play pretty well.

In general, I thought we struggled a bit with our defense in right back, but the guys were hitting a lot of balls right around the ten foot line which makes the girls' defensive system change quite a bit. Overall, they have a lot of stuff to work on, but there's definitely potential. We need to get a bit more consistent play from the outsides, but they were also getting set a bit too inside. This cuts down their angles and really forces them to choose their shot based upon the set, but that just takes time. The freshman setter seemed to run the middles and backsides great though - that's definitely something they need to be running ALL DAY if they are going to be successful. The guys really had trouble stopping it and Lindsay was absolutely tearing up on her slides.

As for the differences in games...In a nutshell, the guys game is a lot more focused on power and high-risk shots, while the girls play a bit smarter and are more comfortable waiting for the right set and taking advantage of the next opportunity while being smart with their swings. It would have been fun if the guys had gone ALL out, but they weren't just completely messing around either - the girls played well, but they have a bit to go if they want to be as successful as last years team.

Any thoughts from anyone else who was there?

From that last response, I'm assuming the guys won, but that was an awful lot of analysis to have no mention of the final result.

Physical Graffiti,

ya... but in every league I've ever played in Co-Ed height == Men's height.

I know the girls can still hit on a men's net - but when you spend years and years as an outside hitter, hitting straight down on a 7'4" net... and then go to an almost 8' net... big disadvantage!

With the net set at the women's height (7 feet, 4 1/8 inches), approximately eight inches lower than the men's regulation height, the men's team won all four sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-23, 25-16.

Hey newsag...thanks for the link. I'm actually hoping to find a tape of the broadcast. If anyone can run a copy, maybe we could work out a trade of some sort.
