For those interested, Donnie Walker (Reagan HS-SA) signed his letter of intent to swim with the good guys today.

Donnie is a fine swimmer. I have watched him swim for most of his high school career. He is a middle-to-distance guy. 1:40 200 free, 4:33 500 free. I think he is also a solid 200 back and 400 IM guy. Good add for the Ags in an area we are historically thin.

Good pickup! Looks like they enjoyed that 800 relay invite so much last year that they decided they'd keep the tradition up.

How many more are the guys looking to bring on? Still only see Troskott and Walker on the recruiting lists.

For those interested, Sarah Henry is back from her knee injury and swimming at the UltraSwim GP this weekend. Finished 17th in the 200 free this AM.

Not to be disrespectful but I don't know who this Walker kid is and I don't know why we're making such a big deal that he signed for the class of 2014?

pludo - are you an A&M swimming fan? If you are - you don't know much. If you aren't - why are you posting here?

Class of 2014 means he enrolls this fall. Donnie Walker is a kid from San Antonio who swims for San Antonio Reagan high school and the Alamo Area Aquatics club team. He is fine middle distance freestyle and backstroke swimmer and a solid addition to the A&M men's swimming team. He was 10th in 5A state last year in 200 free and 3rd in 100 backstroke.

Good enough for you?

Also note: as a junior, Donnie was 8th in the 200. His 100 backstroke third place finish last year was behind Edwards and Robinson, who are both juniors and are both already listed as 5-star recruits.

The coaches have recognized the team's depth weaknesses of the past in the middle and long distance events and working to fill them over the past 2 seasons, and have done a great job of building some depth. The kid might not ever be a national champion, but he will probably be a very good relay guy, which fits in well with what our guys do.

non-a&m swimming fans aren't allowed to post here? That seems a bit odd to me...

EDIT: grammar

Side note: I'm pumped about Mr. Walker joining the Ags. Can we call him D-Dub? Get it? like, DW, his initials?! Oh man I'm good

Or Donny Sky-Walker? Chris Berman would appreciate that nickname more.

sorry, like i said, i didn't mean to be disrespectful. I just didn't know who the kid was and hadn't really heard of him before.
thanks for the education.

Any other news on who they've signed?

Lemme just say, I love where you guys' heads are at. Always on a swivel, being creative. Great stuff. Love the new nicknames, lets keep 'em comin! I think we can develop a nickname for each new recruit that comes in, and maybe the guys on the team will catch a glimpse of our brilliant ideas and some of them will stick. Bring it on!

Errr...I have a feeling that nothing that anyone ever posts on texags will ever make a member of the swim team happy.

If he gets really fast, maybe Donny Walk-on-wat-er?

I have a feeling their nicknames, if they get one, will be earned somehow for something they do in the pool or otherwise with the team.

I have to say though that Donnie Skywalker is a good one.

We can always suggest a name. Maybe one of 'em will stick.

I swam for Donnie's dad (Don) and am his meet referee for swimming. Known Donnie a long time - great kid.

so no news on other guys signed then?

I know the rep. is to snipe guys at the end of the signing season, but into June? This is getting a little ridiculous.

No other signings per swimmingworld recruit rankings.

There's gotta be more than 2 holes to fill, unless they've got guys "signed" but not signed yet, if you know what I mean. May be a few foreigners coming in too, that aren't showing up on the radar.

They definitely have more than just 2 guys coming in next year, don't you worry about that. A couple international guys, as well as some local fellas.

I scrolled through the just first few pages of the collegeswimming.com rankings and saw 5 guys committed to A&M. Are these wrong or something?

Must be new! I looked through about 2 weeks ago and still didn't see anything. Will be back with names and stats in a minute!

WOW, some great international pickups!

Henrik Lindau, Collegeswimming's #8 overall recruit-part of the Swedish National Record holding 200 yard free relay (SCM). 19.88 50 free, 45.63 100 free, 50.47 100 back, 46.90 100 fly. Haven't verified the times, but that's what collegeswimming is reporting.

Paul-Marc Schweitzer from France, 46.33 100 free (SCY), 1:40.33 200 free (SCY), 50.27 100back (SCY), 4:31 500, 1:53.15 200 IM (SCY)

Andd Simon Frank (another swede) goes 4:35.69 in the 400 IM (LCM), 50.85 (LCM) 100 free, 2:01.93 200 IM (LCM)which converts to 1:50 in SCY.

Pretty awesome international trio! Hopefully they all are cleared to compete right away (it looks like several of them have swum at professional-level events, although not clear if they actually made any money).

We are missing these times for these guys:

Frank 4:13 SCM IM....thats a 3:46 SCY convert...amazing?

Schwietzer is 58/206 LCM back...4:00 LCM free...very good

Lindau.....lots of very good times

Add those guys to Trosket and I'd say lets let those guys do their job and not worry about when they tell us who we got, even if it seems "rediculous" to those who don't understand recruiting?

AgB: Are you seriously fantasizing that these guys may not be amateurs?

For a while you seemed to be moving away from your negative stuff, given the success of the team, with your buddy GoBlue ( did he die or soemthing? )

Please be a "loyal" aggie fan and dont insinuate that good swimmers might have taken money....thats all we need here isn't it?

hahaha Anonymiss. You're back! Good, we missed you.

You're the most negative person on this board! Nobody insinuated they were doing anything wrong, it's just not uncommon for foreign athletes to be paid small sums for competing. All that results is that they have to sit out for a short period before they compete. Check out NCAA tennis. It's not like in the states, where high school players taking money is a huge scandal. All he said was that it appeared as though they swam at "professional-level events." I haven't seen what events he's talking about, but I imagine it's similar to the grand prixs here in the states. They're professional-level events, but the amateurs don't necessarily make money. There's also plenty of other reasons why international athletes have to sit out a semester or a year.

Relax a little bit, bud. I don't think anybody but you could have taken his post as a negative one.

miss, I know you're just trying to antagonize me, and that's cool. It's what you do.

But anyways, I'll agree with you, it's a great class.

Where did frank swim the 4:13??? That's hella fast!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you notice GoBlue/AgB (Im guessing one in the same? so tricky!..but interesting how he/she/them appeared again.)youre the only one who aggravates me. It's just stupid to even bring up a useless point like money at meets...as I am sure the coaches do their homework

so will the coaches be focusing on middle distance, back, and breast stroke over the next couple of years?
