Regionals were fun to watch because our runners were so far ahead of the field in several of the races. The new recruits of Sam Humphreys, Tabarie Henry, Demetrius Pinder, and Curtis Mitchell have made a huge impact on the MEN's side. In addition, do not forget the injured Wayne Davis as a part of this recruiting class. What a recruiting haul it was!!

Under the guidance of Coach Pat Henry and his staff, we have become a top track & field program. We should do very well at nationals.

Neanderthal57 made several good comments in his remarks. I have tried to add to his.

Florida MEN:
Will enter 11 positions and 2 relays. They are extremely strong. They have the potential to win or place second in 7 events - both relays, long & triple jump (Christian Taylor), 400m (Calvin Smith), 100m (Jeff Demps), and shot put (Kemal Mesic). Other possible points may come from Omar Craddock (triple), Gray Horn (decathlon), Terrell Wilks (100m), and Tony McQuay (400m). They did not lose any potential point makers at Regionals. T&F News project them to earn 69 points at nationals. Unless they falter somewhere, they should definitely earn over 60 points.

Oregon MEN: Expected to fight with A&M for second place. They are sending a strong crew to nationals and will enter 16 positions. They only loss one potential point maker at Regionals - freshman Mac Fleet might have earn a point in the 1500. They will be strong in the distances (800m - 5K). They could earn three top spots in the 1500 and the top spot in the 800m. They could earn a point or two in the 5K. Ashton Eaton will easily win the decathlon for the Ducks and may finish high in the long jump. Cyrus Hostetler will be expected to win the javelin with Alex Wolff earning a point or two. They could earn at least 50 points.

A&M MEN: We will also have a strong contingent at nationals. We lost no one at Regionals - all of our top 12 regional participants advanced to Oregon. We looked very strong in the sprints and relays. We will enter 14 positions and 2 relays. We should earn points in the 100m & 200m (Curtis Mitchell & Gerald Phiri), 400m (Demetrius Pinder, Tabarie Henry, & Bryan Miller), long jump (Melvin Echard & Julian Reid), and triple jump (Zuheir Sharif, Tyron Stewart, & Melvin Echard). We should finish in the top two in both relays and the javelin (Sam Humphreys). Add in a point or two from Trinity Otto in the decathlon and we could mount a strong challenge for the title if we get some corporation from Florida and Oregon, especially Florida. The 4x100 and 4x400 races between Florida and the Ags could be the highlight races of the meet.
= = =
Oregon WOMEN: Lost Amber Purvis at Regionals. She was expected to earn 4 to 6 points in the 200m at nationals. However, they are strong and should be the favorite to win. They scored 215 points in the PAC-10 conference meet so they have plenty of individuals who can earn points. They will enter 15 positions and 2 relays. They should win the heptathlon (Brianne Theisen). They should earn 5-10 points in the 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay, 1500m (Zoe Buckman & Jordan Hasay), 5K (Alex Kosinski & Nicole Blood), 10K (Nicole Blood & Mattie Bridgmon), 400m (Keshia Baker), 800m (Anne Kesselring), and pole vault (Melissa Gergel). The Ducks should get 6-10 more points from Jamesha Youngblood in the jumps. They will be hard to beat, especially on their home turf.

A&M WOMEN: We lost only one of our top 12 regional individuals. Natasha Ruddock twisted her knee and could not run at Regionals. She was expected to earn 5 to 8 points at nationals. We will enter 19 positions and 2 relays at nationals. We could earn around 15 points in each of the 100m (Gabby Mayo, Jeneba Tarmoh, Porscha Lucas, & Dominique Duncan) and 200m races (Jeneba Tarmoh, Porscha Lucas, & Dominique Duncan). The results of both relays may give us another 15 points. We could pick up 6 to 8 points in the 400m (Jessica Beard), 5 to 8 points in the 100m hurdles (Gabby Mayo and Vashti Thomas), and maybe a few more points in the remaining events -- heptathlon (Daphne Fitzpatrick), javelin (Emalie Humphreys & Hillary Pustka), long jump (Vashti Thomas & Ashika Charan), and triple jump (Tiffany Peters & Ashika Charan).

Day 1 - Wednesday
Listed below are today's participants from Florida, Oregon, and A&M (MEN) and Oregon and A&M (WOMEN)
Following each individual/relay listed are one or two numbers.
The first number is their rank based on season's best performance.
The second number is their place prediction by T&F News.
In today's non-final events, 8 will advance to finals

MEN:
Triple Jump (final):
Probably the most important event Wednesday for us will be the men's triple jump
Christian Taylor (1/1) - Florida
Tyron Stewart (3/3) - A&M
Zuheir Sharif (4/2) - A&M
Omar Craddock (5/5) - Florida
We must earn at least as many points in this event as Florida. We cannot afford to end the first day with fewer points than Florida and start playing catch-up.

4x100: Florida (1/1), A&M (3/2)
800m: Andrew Wheating (3/1) - Oregon, Travis Thompson (17/-) - Oregon, Elijah Greer (22/-) - Oregon
400m: Calvin Smith (1/5) - Florida, Demetrius Pinder (3/6) - A&M, Tabarie Henry (7/4) - A&M, Tony McQuay (13/-) - Florida, Bryan Miller (23/-) - A&M
100m: Jeff Demps (5/1) - Florida, Gerald Phiri (7/5) - A&M, Curtis Mitchell (14/7) - A&M, Terrell Wilks (16/-)

WOMEN:
Heptathlon: begins today and ends tomorrow. It will be a shock if Brianne Theisen (1/1) of Oregon does not win the 10-point prize. Daphne Fitzpatrick (22/-) is not expected to place.

4x100: A&M (1/1), Oregon (4/4)
800m: Anne Kesselring (12/3) - Oregon
400m: Keshia Baker (1/3) - Oregon, Jessica Beard (2/2) - A&M
100m: Gabby Mayo (6/-) - A&M, Porscha Lucas (4/2) - A&M, Jeneba Tarmoh (6/5) - A&M, Dominique Duncan (22/-) - A&M, Mandy White (24/-) - Oregon
400H: Andrea Sutherland (10/-) - A&M, Donique Flemings (24/-) - A&M
10K (final): Nicole Blood (6/5) - Oregon, Mattie Bridgmon (11/7) - Oregon

Today our point goals are to stay even or better than Florida in the MEN's competition and to stay even with Oregon in the WOMEN's.

For us to be even with Oregon after Day 1, the two Oregon runners (Nicole Blood & Mattie Bridgmon) in the 10K need to NOT finish in the top 8.

Men barely qualified for 400m finals. Top 2 in each heat and next two best times qualified. Demetrius finished 2nd in his heat with the slowest time (45.77) of the 8 qualifiers. Tabarie (45.74) finished 4th in his heat and earn the last spot in the finals. Bryan Miller finished 20th overall.

Weather is bad - lots of rain.

S.S., Thats what was said on the message board of Track and Field News.

I have not had anything wrong from him in the past. No reason to assume anything different.

Mayo has a left quad injury. Expects Beard to anchor the womens 4x100 in the finals.

For those who have twitter accounts, you can find Aggie Track updates at http://twitter.com/aggietrk.

From watching the video and the live field updates web page, it looks like A&M will get 14 points (2nd & 3rd place) and Florida will get 13 points (1st & 6th place).

The MEN beat Florida today by one point. That's a good start. That's what we had to do today point wise.

The 10K will tell us how we do today against Oregon in the WOMEN's competition. Oregon needs to get zero points.

TFN Formchart after today.

Women :
Oregon slated for 60 points (+0).
Texas A&M slated for 55 points (-6).

A&M women must make up 6 points (Mayo hurdles) in the TFN projections in the 100m, LJ,TJ.

The A&M women have to be somewhat concerned about not making the finals of the 4x400 with such a poor showing by Flemings (60) and Sutherland (59+) in their hurdles races today.

Men :
Texas A&M for 67 points (+1).
Florida for 67 points (-2).
Oregon for 54 points (+0).

A&M men are in good position going into the second day of prelims. Need to have a good showing in the Javelin and 200 tomorrow.

Oregon has a big day as they have three predicted scorers trying to qualify in the 1500 for a total of 20 points in their formchart predictions. A poor showing in the 1500 would create a two team race even though A&M and UF would have to falter for Oregon to catch them.
