DAY 1 - Wed - Aggie Summary
MEN:
100m: Gerald Phiri (5th) & Curtis Mitchell (6th) advanced to finals on Friday
400m: Demetrius Pinder (6th) & Tabarie Henry (8th) advanced to finals, Bryan Miller (20th) did not advance.
4x100: A&M (2nd) advanced to finals
Triple jump (final): Tyron Stewart (2nd), Zuheir Sharif (3rd), Melvin Echard (9th) = 14 points.

Aggies gained a point on Florida by triple jump efforts.
Not a strong showing in the 400m. In addition, the projected top 7 advanced. The final will be tough.
Florida looked strong in the 4x100 and had the best time. They will be hard to beat and we probably will have to win this race to be able to win the title.

WOMEN:
100m: Jeneba Tarmoh (1st) & Porscha Lucas (4th) advanced to the finals. Dominique Duncan (14th) did not advance. Gabby Mayo withdrew, apparently out of the meet entirely.
400m: Jessica Beard (3rd) advanced to finals.
4x100: A&M (1st) advanced to finals.
400H: Andrea Sutherland (21st) & Donique Flemings (24th) did not advance.

Aggies lost significant ground to Oregon. We lost several points when we lost Mayo and Oregon earned 6 points in the 10K that I was hoping they would not earn. Trying to win a team championship without Gabby and Natasha will be difficult.

Curtis Mitchell and Porscha Lucas both had very poor starts in their 100m races but were blazing over the last 30 meters to finish second in their heats and thus advancing to Friday's finals.

4x400: A&M (5/2), Oregon (1/3). Women should advance but they will be hard pressed to finish high in the finals. We probably need to beat Oregon in this race to have a chance to win the title.

Why are track meets so blasted slow? Following live results puts me to sleep.

A few heats of races that take 11 seconds to run so far.

Do they deliberately insert massive pauses into the schedule?

Through 4 events, Otto has thrown out 4 career bests!

He is still, understandably,way behind Eaton but in 2nd after 4 and is doing quite well!

He is on pace to outdo his first day at BigXII by almost 300 points. That is almost a 10% increase!

Most importantly, Florida's Horn is in 13th place - - though only 81 points away from 8th place.

Still, if Otto finishes in top 4 and Horn does not get points, that is a good swing for us.

Phiri 20.78 and Mitchell 20.59 advance to final in 200.

Lucas clocks 22.49 for the collegiate leader in heat one.

Tarmoh wins third heat in 23.04.

Duncan qualifies on time. Three Aggies in the final of the women's 200.

This will be an unexpected point pickup.

If Otto gets any points in the Dec it will be points added to the Formchart Prediction.

Oregon Women are close to losing a point in the triple jump as Youngblood is 9th with the entire second flight to go.

Otto remains in 2nd place after day 1 of the decathlon. Horn is now in 14th place (123 behind 8th).

Looks like A&M's Tiffany Peters will place in top 8th in Triple Jump, which is unexpected I believe?

Oregon's Youngblood will not make the women's triple jump final. A&M's Tiffany Peters currently 5th with her first round mark of 43-6 1/2w.

Humphreys 2nd round throw an improvement to 227-7 / 69.37, currently in third place among first flight throwers.

Oregon's Theisen wins the hept.

Charan moves into potential point status in the second flight of the TJ. Two women in line for points at the current time.

No points were expected from this event.

Third round for Humphreys reaches 230-8 / 70.32 is 4th in flight.

Ashika Charan currently 7th with a 42-11 in triple jump

Are they taking a break in the first flight of the Men's Javelin?

Ashika Charan currently 8th in triple jump, Peters 5th with a jump remaining in the first three rounds.

Leading marks in javelin from first flight: 239-10, 234-9, 231-9 and 230-8 for Sam Humphreys.

We need to hold to the form chart in javelin

Thats a rough spot for Humphreys waiting on the 2nd flight.

Is there a javelin final? If so, top 8 make it?

or is the best Humphries can do 4th?

Vashti Thomas runs 13.12 for third in third heat, advances on time to final.

THomas makes the finals of the 100 hurdles to lessen the impact of Mayo not running.

It would be huge if Thomas could jump a few spots.
