How is it that we have back to back national champions in women's and men's track and field and we have NO forum site for them? Haven't they earned it? Love to hear the rationale for it.

Do we really need to start this thread every time the track team wins a meet?

You don't get a forum for winning. It's not like a big trophy. You get a separate forum for 3 reasons, and 3 reasons only:

1) Someone is willing to sponsor a sport-specific forum. See golf.
2) That sport is in another very busy forum where threads about the sport are quickly pushed to the second page without being noticed. See Women's Bball.
3) That sport has SO many threads, year round, that it's impossible for the other sport(s) discussed in that forum to keep their threads on the first page. If the number of track threads popping up now could be sustained for more than 3 weeks a year, they'd probably get their own forum.

Typically, threads stay on the front page of the "other sports" forum for about a month. Even now, after track winning the NC, threads that are 4 days old are still on the front page.

Look, I hate to kill your buzz, we're all pumped about track. But having it's own forum would not be a good thing. A&M golf doesn't seem to get nearly as much pub. in it's own forum as it used to on here, because most of us "other sports" people follow all of the "other sports," and having all of the threads in the same forum just makes it easier to keep up with them all. I'm not sure why there's a perception that track getting it's own forum would somehow benefit the program, create more publicity, or make anyone happy. Aside from the swim team, I've heard the athletes don't typically get on texags anyways.

That makes sense GoBlu.

I come to the "other sports" forum all the time to check up on things.

I rarely go on the golf forum.... really only when the Ags are playing in a tournament.

I sincerely hope this is true!

Some good points goblue...

BUT, golf is a poor example as thousands of texagers play golf and want to discuss it.

The problem is that there is an information vacuum that's keeping all the new would-be track fans from becoming versed in the sport. There is no team news, no understanding of the points system, scholarship strategy, etc. We can't even find out Wayne Davis' condition???

I would think a new forum would create more interest and become a depository of information and talk that would grow as more people learn about the sport. We are a track school now.

I would even bet that with TexAgs excellent infrastructure and aesthetics, combined with the Aggies continuing dominance in the sport, that the TexAgs track forum could become the national meeting spot and information clearing house of NCAA track & field fans and recruits everywhere.

There is certainly an unfilled need for a (well designed) centralized online community.

And no, I'm not joking...

track and field news (the bible of t&f) has a forum if you want to go talk track there.

You get a seperate forum for T&F, you'll get like 10 people on there...having it in other sports will get you more exposure. Be Gracious.
