I assume we will get a bunch of studs for both the men and women but I haven't seen anything yet.

We have a lot of seniors and big players graduating. Should be plenty of scholarship monoey to go after some big gun replacements.

Fyi, the new roster is up. A few new sprinters listed for both men and women.

Not a great recruiting year, but still pretty good! Next year's outdoor NCAA's should be another shootout with Florida who remains very strong.

Wow, that was incredibly cryptic of the three of you.

Coach Henry mentioned at the Dallas A&M Club the sprinter who had world class times but didn't take to his rules. Sat him out last season until he saw the light - which, apparently, he now has.

Believe it was Hardy who is now listed on the T&F roster. Anybody know more?

Hardy is a new freshman this year so it wouldn't be him.

Wayne Davis?

Davis was injured (unless that was just a cover story), and by all accounts is not the type of kid that would have attitude problems.

Any report on the girl from a small town near Brady who, singlehandedly I believe, won the UIL State Track and Field Championship awhile back for her HS?

She was projected as a heptathlete for the Aggies.

On my way to the soccer game last night I saw the brick wall and sign in front of the outdoor track oval. National Champs , Men and Women, 2009 and 2010, with more room for additions on the wall. Sweet.

Fast fred, I think you are referring to Bonnie Richardson. She won the state team title her junior and senior year. She is still doing the hept. Her results aren't spectacular, but it usually takes a while to develop into the hept system.

So can anyone give us a heads up on who we are likely to sign? On how good a class it may be? Getting track recruiting info seems near impossible unless you're just very connected.

I saw one commitment in the DMN for a hurdler from DeSoto Kenneth Minkah who is a stud.

If the Ags are able to sign Kenneth Minkah That would be a big score. He projects to be a good one! If they can get Wayne Davis up to speed that would be a powerful 1-2 punch in the short hurdles.

Here is a release that appeared in the papers.

DeSoto hurdler Kenneth Minkah verbally commits to Texas A&M
Posted at 11:27 AM on Wed., Sep. 29, 2010 | DeSoto hurdler Kenneth Minkah, the state's Class 5A champion in the 110-meter high hurdles, has verbally committed to Texas A&M.
Minkah set a personal best this summer after posting a time of 13.45 while running for his club, the Running Tigers. The time bested his 13.62 wind-aided state-championship time. His times make him one of the fastest returning high school hurdlers in the nation.
"Kenneth is focused," DeSoto track coach Mark Brady said. "He takes care of his business; he does what he's got to do.
"He's prepared. That's probably the difference, right there."
Minkah also finished fourth in 5A in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, posting a season-best time of 36.83.

Is that an old release? Makes it sound like he's class of 2011?

agrunner12, that's indeed who I was asking about.

Thanks for your reply.

I hope she (and you) enjoys Texas A&M and has success in both the heptathlon and in the classroom.

Huge might be a bit premature. Her PRs so far don't put her in the same category as any of our elite sprinters from 60m to 400m (Mayo, Tarmoh, Duncan, Beard, and Lucas - yes I know Porscha is gone). She's a step behind freshman Ashley Collier as well. It will be interesting to see what she does her senior season and then how coach Anderson can develop her talent.

One thing you know for sure is that Anderson will make her better. Any other recruits rumored to be coming?

Here's something I noticed on a recruiting thread on the soccer board. Evidently we will be getting a soccer commit that will run hurdles for our women's track team as well:
quote:
F Annie Kunz, Golden, CO (Colorado Rush) **** - One of the better pure scorers in the nation, Annie has slowly improved her game to the point where she was invited to the U-17 NT Camp in February. She has been a standout on her club team at the USYS Region IV Championships where she had three consecutive hat-tricks. Annie, who is over 6 feet tall (which makes her a huge threat on corners in the box), also excels at Track & Field where she won the state title in the 100M Hurdles, which is one of the main reasons A&M beat out North Carolina for her services as Pat Henry has assured her that she will get an opportunity to play both sports at A&M. Another Top 100 level recruit, she joins an incredible forward class that will be among the best in the nation for years to come. 4-star recruit by Top Drawer Soccer. 2010 PARADE All-American. 2010 Gatorade State Player of the Year (Colorado). Chose A&M over UNC.

I'm not sure how much this helps the track team, but in this case, the track team seems to be helping Coach G for sure.

We can always use another hurdler - both Gabby Mayo and Natasha Ruddock are seniors.

Annie is a great hurdler. Not elite, but great. I'm sure the first thing they will do when she gets here is refine her form. She's lanky and isn't as solid...kind of flimsy, but hopefully she improves.

will her track coaching improve her soccer skills?
tag8

It is very possible. She is already an amazing soccer player, but I think her footwork will be a major improvement (speed and agility). Her vertical will probably increase too, so that's good for corner kicks because she'll have that height advantage (besides being 6' already)over the opponents. I think soccer could very well help her in track. The conditioning coach G has those girls do is just ridiculous, but in a good way. The only thing that scares me is if she gets hurt during soccer...our team usually draws out the aggressiveness in our opponents.

got another commitment from an overseas distance stud out of Sweden not as good as the Norwegian but a conference scorer at worst
