Ags kick off the season this weet at the SW Collegiate plunge (renamed invitational? Lame).

We had talked earlier this year about wondering how they will run the meet this season with five teams. It's a 50m facility...maybe they turn the pool sideways and stretch it to 10 lanes?

Mansfield ISD is hosting. As usual, those with inside knowledge of the team are very tight-lipped, so I haven't heard much about how the first few weeks have been going. My assumption is that those big Swedes are having no problem adjusting to the bigtime weights routine.

I AM SOOO PUMPED FOR THIS MEET!!

even though no team will be specifically focused on this meet, it should provide great insight into the events that will play out throughout this season and NCAA's! (and years to come)

GO AGGIES

The SwCP (still plunge based on the meet info) will be the same format as last year. They swam it in 10 lanes last year, just had 2 empty. This year, with TCU involved, the pool will be full.

I think most of the coaches involved would want to have the same teams come back together in February for a meet instead of splitting in 2 for Big 12s and CUSA. That would be a great atmosphere.

It's hard to predict what we'll see from the guys... diving should be solid with Nel fresh off his international trip. Last year the swimmers fared very well, but all mens teams have trouble getting out of the gate sometimes (see A&M 2008, SMU last year at this meet).

As the above poster said, it will tell us a lot about the rest of the season, but not enough to go crazy about either positively or negatively.

word from the guys is the coaches are working them harder earlier than last year. Which is awesome. Could mean for some rough swims early in the season at the plunge, but once they get adjusted to the increased workload they should be able to step up and have some solid in season races like last year, and then taper like mad men in Feb/Mar

Wow, Omar Enriquez looked STRONG at the plunge....top 5 time in the 500, a couple of "B-final" swims that would've been top 3 in the A final...If it's true what 09 says about them working harder than last year, then this meet was VERY encouraging. The freshmen also seem to be adjusting extremely well to their new digs/dryland routines. All-around great meet from the guys.

The times looked good. I'm pleased that Troskott swam fast, considering his summer was mediocre. Texas lost a lot of fast swimmers so the Ags could be closer than they have been in years.

No Spann or Wilcox for Texas though...Interesting development...

without a doubt, Omar was great to watch, very smooth and strong - the star of the entire meet. he did not show any signs of a difficult fall of dryland training.
You thought "Troskot" swam fast?? I thought he swam ok at best. he swam 'fast' considering he has a hurt hand, and Doug is working on cleaning up his stroke.
it's early, there will be some fast swimming before the seasons concludes.

I thought Troskott's 50 times were pretty good. A lot of freshmen don't swim very well in their first few months. His relay split of 20.11 is not bad at all. His flat start 20.81 was less impressive but he beat Balasz. He wasn't too far behind Feigen, clearly the class of the Big12 in 50 and 100 free.

I've gotta agree with Spice here. Not every swim was outstanding, but that inconsistency is expected from a freshman. They relay split showed a glimmer. It's gotta be a big transition coming into the A&M weight program, and third overall at this meet is nothing to sniff at.

the boys swam exactly how i expected at this point in the season. if anything, many of them exceeded expectations.
the spring will be very exciting if this is how they're swimming now.
