This is the year for the Aggie men, if there is one. Austin, Jeff, Griggy are seniors, some talented freshmen coming in. If they are gonna make a real run at the title, this is the year they do it.

I think they will, personally.

Lots of talent on the roster this year. What's the word on the freshman? Do you think they'll crack the singles or doubles lineup?

I hadn't realized that Angus did so well in the fall...ranked 51 to start.

What's the best guess at our lineup?

Krajicek ended the year terribly need him to step it up to make a deep run.

I too am curious how the incoming freshmen will fit in. Anyone care to take a stab at projected lineup?

Also, I think Texas is ranked too high. They lost some guys and didn't really get anybody new in right?

texas lost kutrovsky and zavala to graduation, and picked up a guy from india named sitaram. he's got a lot of international experience, career high top 50 itf, some good wins and close losses against some of the top guys in the world. i've seen him play some, he's good but not kutrovsky or corrie's level, imo. will be interesting to see how he looks with a semester of college tennis under his belt. as far as i know, the two guys they signed for next year aren't coming until the fall, and they aren't all that great anyway, so i agree that they have taken a step down from last year and are a little overrated at this point.

I don't think Sitaram will crack the singles roster.

He played in a tournament in Dallas last week and got drilled by his teammate Holiner in the 1st round. That means I got further than he did in the tournament

But he did win the consolation bracket easily

A&M is the best team in the Big 12 this year.

We will soon find out if you are correct.

I sure hope you are

This year's team is deep. Denton is trying to redshirt two of the three fish (Szabo and Withrow). Both likely to play in the top three next year. Ore, the other fish, played #6 against Miami and won . Hoover and Angus have improved a lot since last year. Believe it or not so has Austin. Based on the first two matches I am a little concerned about Jeff. Denton and McKinley can both recruit and develop talent. They also have fewer foreigners than most college tennis teams. I am excited about this team.

Anyone going to the Texas Cup at the Met tomorrow? Word is that Klegou is eligible again, will be interesting to see what the lineup looks like.

I'm going to try to make it. I'll be late (probably miss doubles) as I work until 6 and live up on the NW side of town.

What does race and nationality have to do with anything??

I think that you guys are saying the same thing. It's a silly argument to make that we really appreciate that our program has success with American swimmers. Baylor v. A&M Tennis has the same argument as Auburn v. Texas swimming...And it's still a stupid, xenophobic argument!

Ags lost the doubles point. Jeff and Austin won 9-8. Griggy and Junior lost 7-9. Berto and Colin lost 6-8 I believe.

Singles lineup is: Austin-Jeff-Griggy-Klegou-Colin-Berto.

Ags won five of six first sets. Dadamo already beat Damico's punk ass, match tied 1-1.

Can't stand Damico. Has always been a p***k. Has he seriously not graduated yet?? I can imagine the boys are enjoying that one in particular.

I thought the same thing about Damico, can't stand him.

Aggies are up 2-1, 3-6 are all going to third sets. Need to win at least two of them.

I love Bautista and love to watch him play, but why the hell don't you play Junior at 6???? He destroyed his last match against Miami. No reason he should sit this match. He is the future of your program, and he has the credentials to back up his play. Give the kid a shot.

XLAggie just likes to argue...so much that he doesn't see that, like Blastoff said, we are saying the same thing - xenophobia and racism are basically the same thing, but while most Americans now recognize that it is wrong to discriminate based on race, some people still think it's ok to discriminate based on nationality.

To think that we are somehow doing better because we have more Americans is no different than to think we are doing better because we have more whites. I don't care if our players are white, black, or green, Texan, Russian, or Martian...and if they are good Ags that can beat the hell out of Kellen D'Amico, neither should you!

It was a great match to watch. We would have taken it IMO had Bautista and Hoover not needed a lot of work on their legs by the trainer in the third sets. It took a lot out of them and gave confidence to tu. We will beat them in conference, when it really matters.

Agreed. We will beat them in conference, no problem. Not our best lineup and we never do well indoors.

I don't see anything wrong between giving an American player a chance over a foreign one...Thinking you're xenophobic or racist for doing or thinking that is very myopic.
Harry Dunne
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree, there is nothing wrong with giving anyone a chance, American or otherwise - the best players should be out there. Thinking that WOULD be myopic, you're right. Just as myopic as thinking there is something wrong with giving an international kid a chance.

The original statement was, "They also have fewer foreigners than most college tennis teams. I am excited about this team."

It would be different if someone was excited because we had a lot of Texas kids on the team or even if someone is proud of the level of American junior tennis rising enough that more American kids were doing well in college, but the way this is worded, the tone is pretty clearly negative against "foreigners".

Most of the "foreigners" in college tennis are from the same place that our ancestors came from. That Austin Krajicek (who, ironically, has a Dutch cousin Richard who was a Wimbledon champ) is somehow more deserving of being an Aggie than Niall Angus for ANYTHING other than the elements that make him better for the tennis team, whether it be because of race, nationality, or otherwise, is a ridiculous idea.

Texas A&M vs Illinois in Seattle in the 1st round. This will be a tough match. Illinois is a strong indoor team and are really battle tested thus far this year. Winner likely gets UVA
