soo Ian Thorpe is coming out of retirement to hit up the 2012 olympics, focusing mainly on the 100 free...any thoughts/predictions on how this will end for him?

I think it won't amount to much. His previous attempt to unretire was overall a non-event and this will be the same. Olympic trials for Australia are probably about 15 months away and I don't think he can make himself a 100 free contender that fast. Maybe make the 4x100 relay.

No...he said during the presser that he's set WR's in briefs before. But it will certainly be a change from what we've seen the past several years out of him.

It'll be good to see him swim again (if only to see an almost textbook stroke), although I have to agree with most in that I don't think he'll be an individual contender...

agreed...it's hard to imagine he'll come back and contend in something that wasn't even his forte at his peak.

You know, we say this though (and my money is still against it) but there have been a few examples of distance swimmers doing pretty well at the sprints once they get older (first in my mind is Ryk Neethling). Maybe it's been enough time that his body can now change and adapt to the sprints a little better...
