Will do- he'll be going against the top school who they havent met this year, at their home track. Also, there is a kid on his own team that is faster but sat out the 1600 in favor of the 4x400. He'll probably run 1600 next week- hope he does for team's sake. They might both break the record!

btw, for any non-trackers, the 1600 is about 30feet short of a mile. It is colloquially called "the mile". He also runs the 2400 (mile and a half) and has been placing 3rd (8:57 was his last and best)his teammate ran a 8:27 getting 2nd.

Are y'all in Texas? If so, does your son run summer track?

Summer track (T.A.A.F.) has really helped my 8th grader. We are in class 2a school, and summer track has given him the opportunity to run against kids from bigger schools.

Contests, Analogy. A taste of winning will do much for him.

thanks- he does seem to be sporting some new-found confidence.

brew- yes, we're in Texas but I've never heard of the summer track program. He just started running cross country after football this year, and now track, so we're newbies. I'll have to check that out.

Texas Amatuer Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.)
You can research it at www.taaf.com

You are welcome to send me a PM if you would like some more information about it.

There are several regional track meets across the state. If he qualifies for the state meet.... it will be held in Waco this summer at the Baylor Track Complex.

You can look at last summers results at:

Well, it was a tough meet with about a 20mph headwind. He struggled in the 2400 and ran about 13 seconds slower (9:10) and finished 8th. Looked like some of the same runners from last week finished similarly behind their times.

In the mile, he finished in 5:41, 4 seconds slower than last week. He did place though- 6th. The field was obviously tougher, with all 7 teams from his district, running 3 men each. A good, fun season- thanks for the interest! Next year, he'll have to go for the 8th grade school record- 5:15!!

Gig 'Em!
