I called this one earlier this year. Was at the match and OU is just a better team than we are. Oh, we have great girls and I'm sure their families love them, just as I could say about OU or any team we play. But OU has a better tennis team - their girls play better tennis. This one really wasn't close. Even though we were at home, the 4 points OU got were very one-sided and decisive. The 3 points we got, well, we were fortunate to even win those, and I think all were in 3rd sets. Don't think Bobby is happy reading his post-match comments. And I for one, think our assistant could carry himself a little more positively, or professionally. OU has jumped us, and is just better. Sorry.

I wasn't able to make it out to the match, what was the assistant doing?

OU should be better, they are 22 in the nation. We are in the 30s. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish with your posts.

And knowing the assistant for years, that's just kinda how he is. He is laid back, but has as much tennis knowledge as any other assistant coach in the country and is a very positive guy.

Not sure how this is some kind of news flash. EVERYONE knew OU was a better team than us.

Mark is a great coach. Also, one of the most accomplished men's players in Aggie history btw. Like Bigfoot said, he's just a laid back guy, but he absolutely knows what he's talking about.

Would YOU want to coach our bottom three?? Didn't think so.

Eyeo***gie10s, OU definately has more depth than we do right now and are the better overall club. It's frustrating. However, I'm not sure why we need to get what ultimately results as the exact same post from you after every match, whether we win it or lose it.

Liles and Frank won their matches in 2, by the way.

Good win for the girls over OSU even though it was closer than it should have been!

The assistant is not the problem on this team...if anything he should be head coach...

I am not surprised that we lost this match and like bigfoot said, when the 33 team plays the 22 team, a 4-3 loss is expected.

I am not sure if the problem is the coaching and if so, I doubt it is the assistant coaching. I wasn't at the match yesterday but Mark usually is very professional and positive. The problem isn't even that our team isn't good. Our team is pretty good, a little better than last year maybe?

The problem is that everyone else is getting better and we are just happy with staying pretty good. We are going to need to win one of the last 3 matches to even make the NCAA tournament I bet, and I doubt that we are favored in any of them (@ Nebraska, Baylor, Tech)

I think we all would like to hear a response to Eyeo***gie10is in regards to him saying Weaver was unprofessional or not positive. That is contrary to anything I have ever heard or seen from him. I was at the OSU match and saw where he stepped in on Liles's court when she was down 5-1 and she won 10 straight games. If it wasn't for Liles turning it around the girls would have lost almost for sure.

We are 33 in the country, we will make the tournament, just might be looking at a 3 or 4 seed

We're obviously not going to win the conference so we're going to need to stay in the top 40 to be a lock to make it. The OU loss won't hurt much I hope, but we won't go up this week.

The Tulsa win ended up being huge (they are 19 currently), but that's the only team that we have beat that will make the tournament.

I don't know how the selections work exactly, but I assume it's like basketball and we are 1-6 against teams that would make the tournament if the season ended today. If we end up 1-9 against the top 40, it seems like it might be tough to make the cut. But yeah, like you said we're a 3 seed unless we can win a couple of these last 3 big matches.

The girls will beat Iowa State which will do them no good, but I think they can get a win against Tech or Nebraska. Probably just one, two might be a stretch. Speaking of the Tulsa win-Tulsa beat OU 7-0 a week or two ago. Let's don't give up on them too soon! They aren't as bad as some might think.

One marquee win in basketball, as long as you're not losing games you shouldn't lose and play a decent schedule, can often get you in the tournament.

We've played a tough schedule, beat a good Tulsa team, and our only "bad" and definately the worst loss is to an OK K-State club.

I think we'll be okay for a 3 seed, but we've got to take care of ISU. Stealing one of the next 3 or something at the Big 12 tournament would obviously be huge.

BigBoy . . . relax. I'm not "down" on our assistant coach, or taking any shots. Just a comment. Which I stand by for the OU match. Just watching body language, that's all. He was on a court I watched a lot of, and it just wasn't good that night. He hits me as a GREAT guy, and I've been around him a bit also. It is obvious the girls respect and respond well to him. Maybe it was just a bad night. Maybe shouldn't have said anything. Just some times in competition when he hits me as a hothead. MUCH better against OSU obviously. Now, again, I don't see the justification regarding OU. We've been better than them for a LONG time, and now they've jumped us. I know winning is hard, but when you LOOK at our facilities, I'm not ok w/ that. And now, we barely get by OSU, who is just not good. Not going to be easy the rest of the way. Iowa State we'll clobber. Texas Tech barely got beat by Nebraska. We've got Tech at home which is a good thing for us. Nebraska (or Germany) on the road will be really tough up there. Although Baylor beat them 7-0. Maybe we get that one. I know we are all hoping we do. Go Aggies!

I get tired of the facilities argument. Unless we have indoors, or we play on a state of the art court surface, facilities don't really play that big of a part in recruiting in tennis. No one is coming here for the new lockerrooms. Womens tennis here attracts hardly any fans anymore, and other than not having to travel, there isn't really a home court advantage. This isn't soccer where we bring in 6k for a match. That's an advantage.

I do agree that Mark has a fiery streak. What great competitor doesn't? Sometimes if the team is flat, that's not a bad thing. I think Turge is about as professional as they come, but he will light some fires at times. I know that they are girls, but it doesn't mean that they don't need some fires lit under their tails at times. I do think Mark does a great job and seems respected by all.

With the facilities, I think that they do help. I posted a video of the new Baylor stuff in another thread. Wow. Though like people have said, even though our stadium is still very good, it is no longer state of the art. My main argument against the facilities is that surprisingly, t.u.'s tennis facilities are very average and they never have trouble getting top recruits in. I guess it is the big name coach they have and the overall success in athletics there. Who knows? All I know is that you don't need Arthur Ashe stadium on campus to bring top recruits in. Denton can do it with split scholarships so it should be a even easier with full rides, right?

For the rest of the season I think we will lose to Nebraska and Baylor and then it will come down to tech at home with the winner making the NCAAs and the loser staying home. I'm not Joe Lunardi so take it easy folks. Just a prediction!

I think part of the recruiting advantage for Texas is that when a recruit walks into Penick Allison, they see a national championship trophy. It has been, even if not recently, a national championship program. We do not have that success to show to a recruit.

I hear ya Eyeo***gie10is. I have seen Weaver going after the umpires over bad calls or getting the score wrong, but I can't say that I wouldn't do the same myself. I missed the OU match but from what I heard the play was pathetic down low so maybe the girls need a little lashing. Anybody know what's going on with the recruiting for next year. I am curious to see if Weaver will have much impact on that. Based on the few years that he has been here they have recruited Urbina and Potgieter and that is probably it since they are the only true underclassmen. Any thoughts out there?

So what exactly happened a coach getting mad at officials if so who cares??? That is their job...

I don't think mark has much control over recruiting. They have 3 scholarships to give, one is already given to another South African Jean Erasmus. I have heard that a couple Australians have visited but don't know how it went. We have had trouble getting Australians into school, some how their schooling differs from our and it makes them hard to qualify.

sounds about like our men's basketball, and that aint too shabby!

Ha, Analogy Ag coming through with a nice Analogy! When you put it that way, things don't seem so bad, ehh? Lest we forget that 2 of our 3 best players are a sophomore and freshman, and that Janelle still has 2 more years of eligibility after this one (she has to get healthy eventually, right??). Sounds like if we can get 1 solid freshman who can compete at the 5 or 6, along with 1 who can contribute in doubles (which should be doable with 3 scholarships available), we're set up for a nice run next year.

Our recruiting hasn't really been bad, in terms of the "rankings" and "ratings". We've had some highly ranked players that have become real duds. We're either bringing in players who don't fit well with our coaches' style, or are overrated by the fact that they fit a high school tennis style better than college.

We're 35 in today's poll. If we don't win one against either Nebraska or tech, we will be seriously on the bubble to make the tournament.

We're in 6th place in the Big XII. The way the schedule looks, we're probably not going to finish any higher and may even finish in 7th, which means we're looking at a first round matchup (Iowa State/Ok St/CU) that won't help us in the polls and a second round matchup that we're probably not going to win.

I don't know how it usually is with at-large bids but I looked last year and the last team in at-large was #42. If the only matches we win for the rest of the year are a terrible Iowa State team and then maybe a rematch with them in the first round, I seriously doubt we stay better than 42. We have to beat Nebraska or tech.

In last 3 years, 43 of the 48 seeds advanced to the final 16. only about a 10% chance you're going to make it to 3rd round if you're not seeded.
