Back in olden times, I and 3 other guys from Crocker ran the 4 x 400. We got 2nd- I think our time was 3:32 or 3:28. Not bad for a bunch of guys that didn't really train and I know I didn't even run track in H.S.

Wondering if A&M still has intramural track and what 4x400 winning times are if so.

Your times would still be pretty tough to beat.

thanks! I also had a best friend that chunked the softball something like 300+ feet in the intramural field event. He has a really funny story that went with it- something like a football player that threw it about 50' further than anyone and they were all high 5'n and jumping around, then he stepped up and threw it about 50' further than that guy and all his friends just stood there with eyes and mouth wide open and shut up!

I ran it back in either '01 or '02. I think we came through at about 3:34 or so and won first place by about 150 meters.

thanks for the info. I ran in '80

It's possible the winning time was 3:28 and we were at 3:34 same as you... I can't remember exactly

3:28 would be very solid... averaging 52 per quarter for non-trained runners with clean handoffs is impressive.

The 2nd and 3rd place teams were corps guys. I think our splits were like :52, :55, :55, :52, but we were up by so much after the first leg that it wasn't really much of a race.

I think we even lapped a team.

I'm sure we didnt run a 3:28. I remember thinking I probably ran a 55, and there was another guy about the same speed as me. We had two former H.S. track guys that I recall ran probably around 50-52, so it was probably around 3:32 or so.

I recall we lost by about 10-12 yards, and I don't think 3rd place was anywhere close to us.

I don't think intramural track is still around. I've never seen it on the intramural sign up sheets before. I wish it was...i'd sign up in a heartbeat
