I'm an Architecture student at Cal Poly. For our class project this quarter we are doing a theoretical redesign the Cal Poly Tennis Complex. In my research I have found that Texas A&M appear to have an amazing facility with a unique design. However I have only been able to find a handful of photos of the complex. I was wondering if anybody could send me some more detailed photos or give be a basic description of the design of the facility. Particularly what is between the courts, under the stands. and what the cross section of the raised seats is like. It appears to me that there is two rows of chair back seats that step down toward the courts, then bleaches that face one side of seats and standing room for the other side. I would also appreciate photos of the entrance to the facility and info about scoreboard location as well as any opinions anybody have about this facility.

Thank you for your time, If you would like to know more about our program read the below paragraph if you're wondering who the hell is cal poly

About our program: I assume you have never heard of Cal Poly, but we are a D1 program in the Big West Conference in all sports except wrestelting and swimming (Pac-10) and Football (Great West moving to Big Sky - both 1-AA) However we are predominatly a soccer. For the past four years, the rivalry game between Cal Poly and UC-Santa Barbara has had the largest attendance for any regular season soccer rivalry game. For the 2008 game at Cal Poly a sell out crowd of 11,075 packed the stadium for the 3rd largest attendance in ncaa regular season soccer ever, the largest in over 25 years. Our tennis program is on the rise and thanks to our top tier academics we have been able to compete for the best players, losing out only because of a low ranking and horrible facilities. I once again emphasize this is a theoretical project and not real at all.

Don't be so hard on yourself, I think more people have heard of you guys than you think!

Check out the facebook groups. There's a fair number of pictures there, that you could sort of piece together.

I don't have a ton of schematics, but I've spent a lot of time at the Mitchell Tennis center, and can tell you what I know.

Your supposition on the main side is exactly correct. The main walkway is between the armchair seats and bleachers. If it matters, A&M has no extra cost to sit in the armchair seats, but there are more expensive seats separating the two groups of 3 courts that you see in the pictures (the big tent looking thing at court level).

Between the groups of 3 courts (so the same plane as the tent in the middle, but elevated), there's a press-box and concession stand.

Each court has it's own scoreboard. There's no main scoreboard (one of the few, if only, complaints I have about Mitchell), but A&M does have a traveling "12th man TV" that they wheel out that serves as a portable jumbotron.

The schematic of the 12-courts is nice, especially when it comes to hosting huge tournaments (high school when there's lots of kids to play at once). But they rarely host Men's and Women's matches simultaneously (usually more back to back I think). There are more courts with much less structure across a small field as well.

Below the stands are the coaches offices and locker rooms, all coming off of a small hallway.

We have a pretty friendly tennis team, so I'd bet if you contacted one or two of them they'd help you out with pictures of anything specific you need.

The extra courts referred to above are the 18 intramural courts just west (beyond what you see pictured). There are 3 banks of 6 courts each. There is a separate support structure with restrooms and office/refreshment room for those courts. No seating other than small bench/bleachers between the courts.
