As successful as the NCAA meets have been since we did the indoor one, would a new outdoor track bring in the same type of events?

I think the heat could be bad compared to the places I have seen them hold the outdoor meets in the past.

It's on the list of things to do. The baseball park was #1, Kyle Field might be in there, I don't remember, but it's definately on the AD's list of things to do.

Schools host successful meets in hot and humid climates all the time. No reason why we couldn't either if we had the facilities.

That is good. Because I remember them saying that every time they have held the NCAA indoors here, they have been sellouts, which is a rarity.

Considering outdoor track season is basically March through May, I would think College Station weather is ideal compared to most of the country.

It was chilly in Eugene last June for the NC Meet. Would have been better in a warmer environment. I'd bet it's chilly again this year for the West Regional in Eugene. Not the best climate for optimum performances.

The last time they held the meet in Texas it was in Austin, and it rained very hard for 2 of the days, and then was hot and humid the rest of the time, which was alright for sprinters but hell for distance runners.

Funny story from that meet - Pat Henry, then the coach at LSU, protested the Texas women's 4 x 100 team for using tennis balls to mark their exchange zone during the prelim, which isn't allowed during a race (the tape wasn't sticking because of the rain). As a result, they were disqualified and UCLA's team got into the final, and UCLA ended up scoring enough points in that event to win the meet by 1 point . . . over LSU.

Well, it's optimum for distance runners! So works out well for the home team! Just bad for the sprinters.

This has been discussed several times on here, but one of the big issues with the new track facility is where to put it. The are where the facility is now is effectively a huge wind tunnel, which is not ideal for a top-notch T&F.

Like AGBlastoff said, one of the biggest issues with the current track is the wind. No matter where the new track is there will definitely be wind-block measures taken.

I've heard the new track will be right next to the current track, taking up a big part of Penberthy. That way they can use the current track as a warm-up area for athletes.

However, I've also heard that it was going to be built on the polo fields. That was from a less reliable source though.
