Runners will be stampeding their way through Bryan/College Station, Texas on October 1st at 7:30am as the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History hosts its 3rd annual Buffalo Stampede! This year’s race is bigger and better than past stampedes and introduces our 1st HALF-MARATHON! Athletes will have the opportunity to show off their skills by running 21,100 meters (a half-marathon) or 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). The course is USATF certified and the races are timed with Chrono Track System disposable bib tags to allow for accurate timing of all our runners.

All Sports Timing is conducting the race and race results will be available at www.allsportstiming.com or www.mychiptime.com.

Never done this before? Our training runs will help you get ready for the half-marathon. We’ll meet on Saturday mornings at 6:30 am beginning August 6. You can run slow or fast and gradually increase from 5-6 miles up to 11-12 miles. Please contact Dwight at hirsch@suddenlink.net for more information and to sign up.

The Half-Marathon course is gently rolling, scenic, relatively flat, fast, and takes you through open country and past neighborhoods and parks. It has a downhill 2-mile finish, and offers runners a great chance for a personal record and a tune-up for marathons. The 5K follows the first 1.55 miles of the Half-Marathon course. Courses are out and back and offer a safe route well marked by N-Line Traffic Management.

These beautiful courses and well organized runs come with water stops, porta johns, great running music provided by DJ Stevo, cool T-shirts for all, unique buffalo age group awards, finishing medallions for the half marathon participants, and post-race refreshments. You will have a chance to meet our celebrity starter and pose with our Bison mascot! AFTER the race, enjoy Boonville Days, Brazos County’s ONLY living history fair of frontier skills demonstrations, reenactors, art, and music. Fun for the entire family, festive Boonville Days activities are inside and outside the Museum. Runners registration includes free admission to the Museum!

Runners' packets and late registration will be available on Thursday, September 29th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday, September 30th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Museum. Packets may also be picked up on race day beginning at 6:00 am. Race Day registrations will be accepted from 6:00-7:00 am, but prior registration is STRONGLY encouraged. Directions to the Museum are available at: www.brazosvalleymuseum.org. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Runners of all ages are welcomed, and we offer trophies and medals for the top females and males in each age division ranging from 12 and under to 70 plus! Overall male and female finishers will receive cash awards ($350 for Half-Marathon, $150 for 5K) as well as special buffalo sculpture trophies. First, second, and third place awards will be given in each 10-year age group. Age-group awards will be buffalo head trophies for first place and buffalo medallions for second and third places. Age-groups will be: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; and 70+.

On race day, the entrance to the Brazos Center from Briarcrest will be closed. You must enter the Museum's parking lot from the back of the Target shopping center. A map will be posted by Sept. 30th on the Museum's website. The Stampede will be held RAIN or SHINE! However, if the races are cancelled due to dangerous weather, entry fees will NOT be refunded. No strollers, skateboards, bicycles, devices with wheels, or dogs will be allowed on the course with runners.

Save money by registering early online at www.brazosvalleymuseum.org, where maps and race details are also available. For more information about registration options call the museum at 979.776.2195. Don’t miss the 3rd Annual Buffalo Stampede and Boonville Days!
