Partial Entry Lists are out. Lots of Aggies will be in attendance. For those wondering, Medrano and Ibanez WILL be swimming in Shanghai. Ibanez 50-100-200, Medrano 100fl-200fl-200IM. Wilkinson swimming 50 back, 100 back, 200 IM.

Missy Franklin (16) and Jasmine Tosky (17) both swimming for the US. Huge young stars and contenders for the 2012 team in London.

Heard that Franklin earned herself rookie of the year last night with a dominating performance in some Karaoke...

Anybody know what's going on with Cielo?

I heard on inside circles that a lot of those Auburn guys do the same thing, looks like Cielo's just the guy that got caught...

Aquabullet - All I know is what I have read in the same places you probably have read.

The tainted supplement excuse is lame as hell. As much risk as this carries - the supplement makers are probably ridiculously careful about their ingredients. So lets say I have my doubts (about Cielo).

OK. Cool to hear the latest.

I just think the supplement "excuse" is over played. If you choose to dabble in supplements, you bear the consequences.

I have no ax to grind with Cielo. I love explosive fast swimmers who aren't arrogant (like Bernard).

BTW - I keep hearing that some of the hate for Auburn isn't just the foreigners - it is the mysterious financial aid so many seem to get (I haven't verified).

Cielo warning upheld. Time to move on to the swimming.

Duran, Atkinson, Triin also should be swimming. Hmm...which other Aggies will be there?

Atkinson is not competing. Amini Fonua is entered as well. Grant and Eric are competing in the Diving Championships.

Surprised Alia isn't going. I think she swam at the Paris Open a few weeks ago, didn't she?

Sehn and partner finished 8th in 10m synchro. Nel finished 19th in 1-meter prelims (12 final). Sehn dives 10-meter platform, starting tonight (our time).

t-minus a minute until Medrano swims in 100 fly!

Medrano 1:00.55 to take 5th in heat 2 of 6.

US unimpressive so far. Lost both of the 4x100 free relays. Only Vollmer and Kukors in medal position so far.

Julia is on to the 200IM final & anchored the Canadians to a 6th place finish in the 4x100 free relay. Today she's got the 100 backstroke prelims & semis followed by the 200IM final..

Julia looked great on the front half of that IM! Tough field, she made the final ahead of the defending Olympic silver medalist and short course World Champion, which is no small shakes.

Was disappointed that Medrano scratched the 200 IM. She had a much better seed there. Amini matched his Commonwealth Games time (1:04.02) in the 100 breaststroke.

Phelps 5th in the 200 free. Is the magic gone?
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lochte was killing him on the walls. If he can't even win the walls...he's in trouble.

I dunno if it's "gone". Certainly dormant. I think he'll still win the 100 fly and 200 fly. If he can convince himself that he's in the final stretch leading up to London "Just 10 more months, then you're done forever!" then maybe he can turn this 200 free around in time for the Olympics as well.

I think Phelps will bust his rear for London.

The possibility of losing to Thorpe in London will be what drives him up to London.

quote:
"Just 10 more months, then you're done forever!"
brings up a good topic for discussion. i know you might not have meant it this way Blastoff, but i think this mindset can often be more of a negative than a positive. it often leads to a person getting into "survival mode", where they just try and hang in there for a little while longer until it is over. everything can become more difficult and harder to fight through/push yourself. now, obviously if he knows he will be done after London, then it is a true statement, but its all about the mindset.

if he takes the "ive only got 10 more months left to get some serious stuff done" approach, i think it would be more "mentally advantageous" (haha thats funny). seems like that would give him more of a reason to bust his balls everyday. takes away the relief of being done element, and adds in the urgency or running out of time.

just some food for thought, and my opinion.

Fonua goes lifetime best to take 25th in 50 breast prelims - nice swim!

Interesting point 09. I feel like the attitude will lean towards the latter more than the former, mostly because after 10 months of training hard he will be the best in the world again. It's not like a middle-of-the-lineup high school swimmer, where it really is just a matter of finishing a career and being done with it. I think having that ultimate position to chase, and well within reach, will keep him motivated for the stretch-run.

And GEEZE, is the Canadian women's team swimming well! Russell breaks the National Record in the 100 back twice (first Canuck under a minute), Cheverton looking very fast in the 200 free early heats. Julia making the final in the 200 IM.

I hope that this doesn't start attracting more programs to the northern recruiting grounds that have been so good to us...

I am super impressed with how Lochte is doing.

I still think that Phelps will kill it in London, but Lochte sure is keeping him on his toes.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, with Phelps' training, was amazed at how close he STILL came to Lochte in the 200 IM. Only .16 away from Phelps being back on top of the world.

But as it is, Lochte's beaten him in their two head-to-head matchups. That boy's got a lot of money coming his way...hope he controls himself until London!

I would say Phelps showed he is near the top of his game. I think the IM swim was impressive even losing.

On another note....American sprinting sucks right now. Out is hard to believe we only put one guy in finals. We need some young talent to step up - like Missy on the women's side. See her split on the 800 relay? Her flat start time was the fastest in the entire finals field.

Missy Freaking Franklin...ha, what are the odds Steve could talk her into coming here?? She's easily a 50-point freshman
SpicewoodAg

Franklin is a bona fide star now. Huge swims for her - including 3rd fastest 200 back ever. Her 100 free split on the medley was once again the fastest in the field.

Pretty amazing finish in the 1500 by the Chinese guy to take down Hackett's 10 year old record. That was some kick.

Something tells me after a year of hard work, Phelps will again be exceeding Lochte's under water ability in London and setting new world records.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
FWIW, Lochte wasn't too happy with his performance either. He thinks that he should have been much faster, especially in the 400 IM at the end of the meet.

I think both go under the WR in the 200 IM in London.
SpicewoodAg

Phelps should feel good that it took a WR to beat him the 200 IM, a very difficult event if you are not at your peak.

400 IM is an even tougher event - especially at the end of 8 days of racing. It also showed how good Phelps' WR is.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
FWIW, at the Olympics the 400 IM comes on day 1.

Still a much more impressive record than the 200 IM was.
