Hey I don't know that too much respect is actually due to me, but I appreciate it anyway!
I probably shouldn't be so harsh, because you can't do something for 30 years with pretty good success without at least having some clue about the job, but from conversations I have had with various people associated with the program including several former players, Kleinecke was more of a "manager" type that didn't have a high-level grasp of the game. The girls I have talked to respected him as a person but did not respect him as a tennis coach. I believe his real undoing was his inability to recruit a full team, but even in the Jessica Roland era glory days the girls used to make fun of the stuff he tried to teach.
I get the sense that they may not like Weaver as much, but they listen to what he says. IMO that's way more important.
Time will tell what we have with Joffe and this season will probably be tough with the same old problem, lack of depth. The one thing that makes me feel good is that Joffe turned around two programs in two years a piece. By his 2nd year at both places, they were having program-best seasons. I can't imagine Kleinecke going to Miami-Ohio or Maryland and turning those teams around in 2 years.
I don't want to totally bash Kleinecke because he did leave the program in much better shape than Joffe found Miami-OH or Maryland. The ACC is an ever better conference than the Big 12, so I'm pretty confident that inheriting a much stronger team (Maryland was worse than terrible) with much better resources, he will be fine.
