Say we go 0-2 in our last two games against Texas & Iowa State. We finish 21-8 overall, 10-6 in conference. We still finish 3rd in the conference. Presently ranked 19th in RPI and 30th in AVCA. No true signature wins, but a very solid season. Are we in the tournament?

Seems to me yes. I can't imagine Big 12 not getting al least 3 spots.

We are in for sure...in fact of we win either against Texas or Iowa State or both then we may even host first and second round since our RPI would be close to top 16 possibly. The top 16 schools that can host and have enetered bids can get the first and second rounds. I have no idea if we submitted paperwork for that but the NCAA holds RPI traditionally as the number 1 criteria.

Right now based upon RPI all but Tech are high enough but Kansas will likely not qualify because ending with sub .500 overall record. This team has been doing great down the stretch but have two big obsticles in front of them in next two matches.

These girls have exceeded expectations of many volleyball people, including me. While still i see issues we are playing good defense and our hitting percentage is much higher in conference than I anticipated. While my assessments can be critical at times, I am excited about how well they have done this conference season. I hope they get a good draw and uhhh...beat the hell outta t.u.

A player told me they did submit a bid to host in the tournament.

As much as Byrne and the current athletic administration likes to host events, I cannot imagine them not submitting one unless there was absolutely no chance. And even them I could see them still submitting one anyways.

So, one presumes that gives us a pretty good shot at hosting, ehh? Based on the RPI laid out above?

The win against Iowa State would have been much better had we played this one Wed and the loss against Texas played yesterday. The committee for seeding likely had the RPI set up prior to last night as the basis for seeding. I can see us anywhere from 15-20 in overall seeding but likely around #18 overall which means to host two teams above would have had to not submit bids. Looking at RPI and other considerations I can see us in a subregional at Kentucky who will be around #14-16 along with some auto qualifier and a semi decent at large. Or maybe packed to the west coast against a team like Pepperdine and some at large along with auto qualifier.

This is just based upon RPI and the desire to keep as many teams as possible close to home. We unfortunately are not around enough teams to not be shipped in my opinion

Looking at teams from area Texas State, Texas, Tulsa, and Oklahoma that are in and others possibly in such as Baylor and UTSA and LSU but the last two are very much on bubble. I doubt UTSA gets in not winning their tourney. Texas gets to host taking a lot of those teams in with them and the 400 mile radius is certainly a factor.

Not sure if the rules allow for a regional site (Hawaii) to also host sub regional so their is an outside shot of hosting and if a couple of more teams from area would have high enough RPI it could happen.

Chances of hosting sub regional...10% at best but I will take that in a heartbeat

Selection show is today on ESPNU at 5:00 between some BB games so may be a shortened show if game goes long in front of the show

Be great if we can host. The team just barely missed the tournament in 07 and 08 so maybe the committee will make up for it. We'll probably have to re-schedule the men's bb game against SFA Saturday night but that should not be a problem. Cannot pass up a chance to host the NCAA tournament.

Well we host first and second rounds here Thursday and Friday against Libscomb and then winner of Kentucky/Dayton both typically strong programs. Rumor was since Kentucky hosting regional thay didnt submit bid for subregional and we got the last seeded spot based upon RPI and our win against Iowa State in Ames.

Seen Kentucky a couple of times on video and I think we atch up well against them. They have good ball control similar to us and statistically get better production from OH position but we have played tough down the stretch and like our route to possible sweet 16.

So did the Corbellis save themselves again?

Well, $Bill fired Bobby Kleinecke even after women's tennis made the NCAA tournament so I don't know that the Corbellis can feel completely safe (although one can argue that making the tournament in tennis is more of a sure thing).

Still, if they make it into the Sweet 16 it will be pretty hard to justify letting them go.

I have been critical of recruiting in that we havent gotten that one dominant outside hitter that is tall for a few years now. I haver no problem if we have a Kelsey Black type player but we need a Laura Jones, Sarah Ammerman type 6'2'' kid on outside to compliment the 5'11'' high flyer type. Next year we will not have that 6'2'' kid on outside that we could use. That said the Corbelli's are good people who may send two teams to the sweet 16 in the past 3 years and definately deserve to continue based upon that. That said we need to get that tall outside that can bomb away OOS balls even if we just get one every two years we would be in good shape. Lowak and Patrick for next year have hops but fit more towards Black in size and Sullivan in middle will do well if given a year to break into college ball. If Patrick is put on her right side she plays in a couple of years we lose 5-6 inches from what we have now and the game is going to the OH who bombs away.

Thursday 4:30 and 6:30pm are first round games at Reed Arena. Kick butt take names girls.

Ags play at 6:30 on Thursday and the winners of Thursday night's games play at 6:30 on Friday.

Maybe Byrne is letting them get to 20 years next year and then they will retire.

As others have said, they have done a great deal of things for this university, but the program has fallen off and I don't see them turning it around.

Honestly with the impending SEC move I believe that will be the Corbellis' ticket to staying here as long as they want. They are good enough (and the SEC is weak enough) to finish top 5 every year in that conference and I think that will be good enough to keep them around. I don't think they have what it takes to ever put us back on the national map of competing for national championships, but a tournament appearance every year or every other year shouldn't be too hard coming out of the SEC.

And there is absolutely no reason to let them go after how much they have overachieved this year. To get a top 16 seed in the NCAA tournament (whether or not it was deserved, they got it) with the lack of power hitters on our roster is downright impressive. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around how we managed to pull it off, but I'm happy for them none the less.
