How closely do you follow track? I don't even think we really mess with the indoor season much.

I follow it close enough to know you didn't read the interview with Nelson posted on the TAMU Ath site prior to the meet!

We're much more competitive in outdoor, one reason is because we have big-time jav and discus throwers. Plus, at this meet, we had B. Evans hurt (only competing in the triple jump), and Pinnock didn't even make the finals (not sure what happened, probably pulled up because of that pesky hamstring). Those two guys having good days, instead of being injured, would add around 30 or 35 points, which would be about two or three places higher.

Didn't mean to infer you didn't. I really don't follow it it all. I know we always do poorly in the Indoor and well in the Outdoor. It doesn't make sense if you think about it.

It might be that we don't do well in indoor because we do not have an indoor facility. Running on boards versus track surface. Plus the banking of indoors makes a big difference for the atheletes.

The biggest issue isn't our lack of an indoor facility, in my opinion. Texas, for example, did quite well without the benefit of one. The issue is that the Aggies are built to be competitive outdoors rather than indoors. A&M's deepest and most talented event (javelin) isn't contested indoors, for example. In most cases, our multi-event athletes' strongest event is the javelin, so they're better outdoors than indoors. Texas did well at the indoor meet because their strength is the sprints, which are contested equally indoors and out.

Trackboy.
I understand what you say. I understand about everyone dealing with a set # of scholarships.
I understand the Javelin strength lessens your indoor potential. I understand about Nebraskas excellent indoor facility. I understand about running on boards. I understand about Title IX and its relation to using walkons. But here is what I don't understand.
The Big XII has sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Championships beginning in 1997.
Here are the results. Team winner by year starting in '97 for Men:
Indoor: Nb, Nb, Tx, Nb, Nb, Nb, Nb.
Outdoor: Tx, Nb, Tx, Nb, TAMU, Nb, 03 coming.
Does it look possible for a school to build a strong team for indoor and outdoor? It sure looks like Tx and Nb have done it!
If we strive for excellence...why not do what they do? In my opinion..when we compete..we should field a team that can consistently compete for the Championship. Men and Women!!
I didn't post the Women..but save 2001 when K St cracked the Outdoor it looks like a Nb vs Tx annual event!

I believe the 2003 men's team to be similar in many respects to the 2001 Big 12 Championship team. That team received 15 points from its decats, 21 points from its javelin crew, 16 points from its discus crew and seven points from its shot putters.

That 59 of A&M's total 159 points. Only seven of those points translate into indoor points however.

That being said, Texas, Nebraska, K-State and Missouri have quality teams. The outdoor championship will be a dogfight. Thankfully, the Aggies will have a few more bullets in their gun at that meet.

I have this feeling we'll pull off the outdoor in the men's competition...
