Anybody know if he is competing on the pro circuit at all while he is the assistant tennis coach?

Where are you Ag tennis supporters? Shuon was a great player for us when he was here and I hope he is trying out the circuit while following through on this coaching duties. Anybody know?

Shuon was a great college player but the difference between a great college player and a pro tennis player is huge. Only the top 200 or so players in the world can make a relatively decent living playing tennis. I watched Ryan Newport, one of the best players in college tennis, get absolutely spanked in the early rounds of a satellite tournament in Houston last year. This is the reason most of the top American pros did not play college tennis (they turn pro before college). I can only think of a couple of current top American pros that did (James Blake and Todd Martin). Again, Shuon was a great college player and a lot of fun to watch, but realistically he is smart to parlay his successful college career into a future coaching gig. Best of luck to him.

I would agree that he was smart to parlay his college success into a coaching position with Tim, however as you stated Harry, Ryan is trying out the tournaments, so I wonder is Shuon is as well?

To answer the question presented, Shuon is coaching the Aggie Tennis team, and is not playing competitive tennis, unless you call the match in California a competitive tournament.

I'm not much of a tennis fan but, there are very few who've laid it on the line for Texas A&M like Shuon did while he played for the Ags. I wish him the best...

Raven - what California tournament are you referring to? Additionally, obviously with the spring season in full swing right now, Shuon would not have the time to be playing for two masters (personal and coaching) - but did he even give the circuit a try when he left and has he stayed with it during the offseason would be my question? Because as Whasty said, it definitely laid it all on the line when he was here and I would like to see how he would fare against the pro competition.

The Aggie Tennis team spent last week in California and played in a doubles tournament in La Jolla. Shuon teamed with Ryan and Tim teamed with Lester in part of the tournament. Shuon decided against playing on the circuit when he finished A & M, and chose to go into coaching when the opportunity came available. Shuon did say it was fun getting back into competition in California and those who saw the match said it was great to see him play again.

Thanks for the info Raven. Great to hear that Shuon enjoyed the competition - let's hope he decides to give it another try in the near future.
