So, what's the deal? How many guys are we going to get to the meet and will the loss to SMU come back to bite us?

I don't see how the loss to SMU has anything to do with NCAAs.....

"maybe he (enriquez) is taking a sabbatical. agreed anonymiss, this season is all but over. completely lost. you can't lose to SMU and bounce back from that. going to be a long flight home from missouri here in a few weeks."

It's funny because according to theswimmerscircle, Day 3 was "the most successful day of a Big 12 Championship meet in program history" for the Aggies.(http://theswimmerscircle.com/2012/02/25/a-larson-misses-rebreaking-ncaa-record-on-day-3/)

Just a reminder, the 400Medley Relay won that night (Ariens, Fonua, Loncaric, Dalton) - Loncaric and Fonua then went on to win individual titles later that same night, 100fly and 100breast respectively.
Perhaps a long flight...in celebration?

Simon Frank 22nd in the 400 IM. From a quick rundown, there are fewer relay-only swimmers this year. He should be feeling really confident about earning that invite.

Good to see Paul-Marc getting in there at 20th in the 200 free. although he will qualify in the 4x200, it is always a nice bonus to earn an individual qualification as well.

It's nice to see our men's relays not having to chase qualifying times after Big 12's. Perhaps this will help our performance at NCAA's. Lots of individual qualifiers too. Scoring non-relay points would be huge.

to educate those who are unfamiliar with the process (and those of us who have been "out of the game" for a while and dont remember...), can someone give us a ballpark "cut number" for relays and individuals?

i seem to remember 13-15 for relays, and 20-22 for individuals? am i way off? i know it varies each year and depends on other factors, but just to get a ballpark idea looking at the precut psych sheet.

going off my own recollection of the selection system...

can anyone remember the last time the Ags qualified the 800FrR and not the 200/400??? love it!

(yes, i know they will swim basically their fastest 4 anyway, just talking about making the cut line)

recently, the cut line has been 12/13 relays and 19-21 rows. i know the 800 relay was invited the year the guys got all 5 in (obviously). what was that... 2010? or am i making that up?

i did notice that they had a b cut in every event, which i doubt has happened before.

i think the ags may have gotten a break qualifying 9th in the 800 FR. its a timed final event so we know that they'll have a middle lane against a bunch of teams that they can really get out there and race for the win. if they can beat their seed time, its a virtual lock to get in the top 8 which would be a huge breakthrough for Coach Holmes.

good call on the 9th spot apoco, that is an interesting observation.

i remembered we got all 5 in 2010 (think youre right there), but those sprint relays are usually our "staple" swims, so its interesting to see the "stronger" relay be the 800 this year.

Last year, it was 12 relays and the cut-line fell early in the 23rd individual. As mentioned above, not as many relay-only swimmers this year. I'd guess the cut line will still be on the 23, but it will be a hair deeper into the 23. But just a guess - big waiting game.

after crunching the numbers, I think this will be the finishing order at NCAA's this year

1. Arizona
2. Texas
3. Stanford
4. Cal
5. SMU
6. Auburn
7. Michigan
8. Florida
9. Georgia
10. Virginia

23. Texas A&M

Seriously Cooper....Nel is pretty much a lock for top 20 by himself if he's even a shadow of what he did last year.

...SMU 5th. Nice.

Are we certain they will even score points this year? How can anyone know for sure?!?!

All kidding aside, things are looking promising for the men at NCAAs.

WOW! Cut line was only at 17 this year! Ouch...don't know how that happened...that's tough.

That cutoff is insane.

It would be a travesty if the NCAA allowed 20 guys per event. *sarcasm*

The guys should be damn proud for qualifying all those relays. This is easily the hardest NCAA meet to ever qualify for (by a longshot). The huge irony is we didn't even have to chase times this year. Good bull.

Wow. There have to be a lot of unhappy swimmers and coaches around the country.

Prelims won't take long to run with just 17-18 swimmers per event. They should just set up the pool for ten lanes and it would just be two heats.

I think its nuts.

spice, dont forget there will be more than just the cut line swimming the events at the meet. there will be many guys who make it on a relay but have a "B" cut and will swim their individual events too.

im feeling lazy and not wanting to study the psych sheets...did we have any guys miss out on the meet because the cut line was so low? i know we had a few guys in that 20-22 range, but not sure how many of them were on relays that also made it.

Psych Sheet scoring -

http://swimswam.com/?p=87

Obviously diving alone will rocket us up those rankings. Biggest thing from an A&M perspective to draw from here is that the scoring is going to be very spread out this year, so the ability is there to jump up.

I don't know the number (might be easy enough to figure out by looking at All-American honors?) but Ags might have more scoring swims at NCAA's this year than they've ever had? At least this millenium? Dalton, Loncaric...maybe a few others with the cut line falling so low? If they end up swimming those individuals? Wild guess there though - will certainly be a lot.

Seems a little ridiculous for defending National champs to be making this mistake.

@apoColyPticus -

They had to use their relay (which didn't include shields) from a december invite to enter. If they had someone else on the team who could've scored more points or been more versatile at NC's than whoever's on that relay, they would probably preferred to have that person there. When you're vying for a championship, it's this sort of thing that could cost you it.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They qualified 18 swimmers. I don't think it's going to cost them at all.
