Nice time for the girls in the 200 free relay. 11th fastest after prelims.

McLaine's 500 prelim swim was excellent - 4:38.75 to finish 3rd in her heat out of lane 8. Closed with a blistering 26.96 final 50. Camille was 4 secs off her seed and wasn't really in the race.

McElhany in top form. Torched her heat in the 200 IM with a 1:57.76.

Miller and Dittmer super strong in their heat too.

Aggies get 4 in the consolation final - Miller, Pavlin, Dittmer, and McElhany. Nice job!

400MR went 2 seconds faster for an easy school record

Looks like it took an NCAA record to beat the girls in the 400 MR this morning. Ags seeded 2nd behind Cal. Wouldn't be surprised to see Tennessee swim faster tonight (I don't think Simmons swam the prelims race). A&M's time crushed the team record.

I must admit I was expecting a lot less in the 2 free relay, that was a nice pick up. It's the ability of those 'weaker' events to score as best they can which'll position the Ags well, I think.

Stand out for me has to be Breeja's relay split (57.24) almost a full second quicker than anybody else. That's a great swim.

A decent rack of points should come the Ags way from the 200IM tonight. No-one able to sneak into the A final but 4 girls in the B final should mean some 'nice under-the-radar' points coming in there.

Did Camille look like she maybe eased up intentionally in that 500 or was her pacing/and heat just not up to it? Didn't get to watch, so I've no idea what it looked like.

I watched the 500s. Camille just didn't look like she had it this morning. She was pretty far off her Big12 time and she wasn't rested for conference. With only one race today for her there was no reason to hold back with such a strong field. Her Big12 time would have put her in the middle of the B final.

McLaine was very strong. I am hopeful she has something left for tonight. She was 9th and just missed the A final.

It looks like Bispo showed once again that she is the class of the Texas team. Her 200 IM time was excellent. Texas' Amundsen had a good 50, but the field is really fast and she is middle of the B final. Gingrich is finishing her career at Texas in poor form. I feel bad for her.

I agree on Larson's relay leg. She erased the body length she was behind. Larson's 50 free split in the 200 free relay showed she has very good speed now.

200 free relay -- ended up better than I expected...lsu losing kendall and uva losing their sprinter really helped us

500 free -- Mclaine looked in trouble but came home in 1:48 and really tore up the last 50...adams was probably the only low spot of the entire morning

200 IM -- would have NEVER though we'd have four score here, especially in such a strong event...fantastic outcome for us here

400 medley relay -- TERRIFIC swim...being next to Cal was just what the doctor ordered...we can't win this race but we can damn sure be second -- even with Tennessee putting their ballers up

Diving -- All three diver are ttheatening to make the A final. Gotta squeeze on this one but they will all definitely score.

Great morning!

St. Germain nearly failed her 5th dive, missed the finals. Jaele and Janie both into the A. St. Germain makes the B even with a mediocre 5th dive.

Ups and Downs:
A&M about held serve as compared to seed, with the exception of three extra scorers in the 200 IM and moved up 200 free relay.

LOB - I never thought McLaine looked in trouble out of lane 8. She was hanging in - but crushed the end of the race. Probably says she could have gone out a bit faster. But it was a great swim no matter what. Camille's swim was the only down swim today. It seems she doesn't have the speed she showed in Austin at the Grand Prix.

AgBlastoff is right about St. Germain. She was solidly in the top 16 until her 5th dive. I didn't see it though I saw most of them.

I don't think Jaele can win. She is just not razor sharp on 1M right now. Strong but she will have a very tough time making up 18 points unless the leader blows a dive. Jaele doesn't have a DD advantage.

Very impressed with both relays, especially the 400 MR, and the 200 IM swims. Larson's primary competitors all swam in the 400 MR, and none came close to matching Larson's split. Bodes well for Larson in her 100 breaststroke tomorrow.

Jaele doesn't need to make up 18; slate is clean now.

Apocolyptus - I didn't know that. I thought the prelims points carried into finals. The Zones meet did carry points into finals and I thought it would work the same way at NCAAs.

Dittmer split 21.7 on that relay.

Looks like three of four girls in the 200 IM held back - all but Dittmer are in the 400 MR later.

Anyone know what the DQ of Beisel was for?

A solid night for the Ags. Jaele was beaten at the end by a very good dive by Ishimatsu. Jaele had higher DD in her favor, but her dive was not as good.

Disappointed ever so slightly in the 400 MR. If we had matched our prelim time we would have been 3rd. But 4th is a damn good swim.

Good day. I agree with the MR. It's hard to be disappointed, but the bar was set high for the girls after prelims.

MIller and McElhany were completing their 6th swim of the day in that 400 MR. that's tough, i don't care who you are.

should be a big day today with the sprint medley relay, larson and dittmer in the 100 breast, millers 100 back, mcelhany in the 100 fly, adams in the 400 IM, and some 3m diving

I'd like to see Larson ease into finals instead of blasting through prelims. I think the fastest breaststroker not named Larson is Leverenz, who isn't even swimming the event. In finals Larson should just go ahead and set the American record.

Can't be too careful. It's a VERY deep breaststroke field. Couple of National Teamers in there (Spencer, Wanland, Carlson). Catherine Meili from Columbia is swimming out of her mind. Ashley Danner has only rested a bit this year, already sub-minute. Sogar looked very good in the relay, as did Ejdervik (who could be an Olympian for Sweden). Carlson is capable of ripping off a 57 too.

Larson is still the favorite, point is I wouldn't mess around too much in prelims if I were her. That's a dangerous game to play in a rhythm stroke like breaststroke, for a still relatively inexperienced swimmer. She's lucky enough to be in the last heat though, so I guess that works in her favor.

She doesn't exactly have a ton of swims in this meet, so overall fatigue shouldn't be a huge problem.

AgBlastoff - No one should ever be complacent with prelim swims. But Larson's 57.24 in the prelim relay was easily the best split of the day. Only Leverenz at 57.71 was close and she's not in the 100 BR.

Lots of 59s and high 58s in the 400 MR.

Larson's finals swim was almost .5 secs slower than her prelims swim. I don't think she stood on the blocks for her start. She only had two 50 free races. So I am concerned about two 100 breaststroke races at 100%. Maybe I shouldn't be. But I don't see how she doesn't get in the A final with a 58.5.

McLaine essentially even split her 200, maybe even a slight negative split considering the start. 53.05 1st 100, 53.26 2nd 100.

McElhany, not Miller, reaches B 100 fly final. Miller faded on the last 25 after a big 1st 50. Shows her 50 speed.

Cammile sneaks in the A final of the 400 IM.

If Cal didn't have Cindy Tran on backstroke their medley relays just wouldn't be anything special. Man is she a backstroker.
SpicewoodAg

Larson easily led the field with a 58.54, which otherwise looked a bit slow even if they swam best times.

Cal was also dogging it in prelims. Their relay will be something special in finals.

Ags juggled the lineup for finals. Huge mistake. Paige Miller is just too fast on 50 fly to have moved her.

Bultman would agree with both of you. The relay adjustment was not a tactical move folks.

Can you explain?

I assume the scratch in the 800 free relay was a move to save energy, especially for McLaine, since the relay had a low probability of scoring points.

Breeja's swim must have been superb. I wish it had been streamed. American record, NCAA champion.

Patrick's win was impressive. I thought it would be a repeat battle of the 1M with Ishimatsu. But Ishimatsu must have been off since three of her dives scored 5s.
