Shane - she went a 2:14.93 last summer.
FINA B-cut is only a 2:18.03...We'll have to wait and see where FINA ultimately draws the cutline.
For those who haven't kept up, FINA set the cap at 900 swimmers this year (there were 1022 in Beijing). That means that a whole lot more people are going to get left home with the current FINA qualifying system.
For those curious, there's going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 300-350 spots taken by auto qualifier + relay swimmers. Then 150 swimmers get entered from countries who didn't have anyone make the B-standard. Then they start working through the 26 events one entry at a time until they pass 900. So, Pavlin would have to expect to be about the 17th or 18th-best, non-auto QF, unique country 200 IM'er etc. etc. assuming my guestimated numbers are right. Then there will be teams who won't send B-cut swimmers.
In other words, FINA has decided to create the most complicated qualifying system known to man, where nobody will have any idea about if they've qualified until mid-June.
Ultimately, I think Kim sits roughly 7th-8th of those 16, so she should be in.
But then again...nobody really knows.
