Women thump LSU 4-1 in the first round in Ann Arbor.

Didn't start out great. Cristina and Naz both dropped first sets. Cristina fought back to win in 3, Naz was up 4-3 in the third but didn't have to finish.

Sun won in straight sets. Janelle maybe healthy again, dropped the first but came back to win in 3 with a 6-0 3rd set.

Sheri was the lone loss at the 6 line. Lauren was up 5-2 in the 3rd when it was called.

Won doubles at 1 and 2 lines, Sheri and Lauren were on the way to winning at 3.

LSU is not a great team, but being basically winners on two of the bottom three lines has gotta be a good confidence builder...winning 2 of 3 against Michigan at the 4-5-6, plus the doubles point, would basically guarantee the victory.

Final:
#15 Michigan 4

Great 1st year at A&M for Coach Joffe. Can't wait to see what he can do when he gets a more complete lineup.

Disappointing finish. Curious what would've happened had we run up against them early in the year when we were hot.

Must come up with a 4, 5 and 6 who can win a few of their matches and take the pressure off 1 - 3.

The girls fought like warriors. Janelle was hurting badly and had virtually no shifting lateral movement. Yet she was strong enough to make the Michigan girl miss enough shots to pull out a few games and extend the match. Michigan's #1 had a serve that was almost unbelieveable. It caught Christina with the "deer in the headlinghts" look a few times. And that gal is only a fish, from Indiana no less, she'll be someone to contend with in years to come. Sun did what she had to do to win, she didn't overpower her opponent just beat her. Janine being there allowed Sheri to take a rest, and it looked like she needed one. Howard had a 6 and 1/2 dozen type decision there, let a senior whose stamina appeared to be fading from a long 3 sets the day before and a hard doubles match against Mich play and most likely be blown out with not much left in her tank or give Janine one more chance this year to see how see does. Seeing it with my own eyes I think that's what would have happened. Lauren did well in her first set but when she got behind things started falling apart. Bottom line this was a match very similar to Baylor's match in the Big 12 tournament. It was going to come down to Naz. Trouble is in hostile territory they had probably 400 to 500 amassed around her court as the match dwindled down. And when they started smelling blood Naz appeared to feeling the pressure a little. Plus, her Opponent was hitting shots that were absolutely fantastic. Naz was playing beautifully, running her Opponent ragged from side to side but you have to give the Michigan gal credit she was well enough conditioned (something NONE of the LSU gals were) that she put the ball in play almost everytime. She had a real good approach shot as well and used it extensively throughout. She may have had 5 unforced errors in the last 2 sets. Naz would have a chance to approach the net every so often but would stay back and when she did the gal killed her. One nice thing about Michigan as a whole the team appeared professional unlike the sips, and the fans were all cordual and friendly. And the weather was as perfect as you could ask for. All I can say right now is, with a team that pretty much everyone at the start of spring thought we'd be MAYBE .500, our doubles throughout the season proved much stronger than anybody (me included) would have given them credit for. We lose one team there from eligibility but bring in some bull snorting, tear the court up, replacements and we're right back in business. Let our wounds heal, bring in a couple, three top notch recruits and watch out. Because my Aggie friends, NEXT YEAR REALLY IS COMING!
